A few days ago, we booked two business class seats on the Palmetto.(southbound)

Amtrak.comnow shows business class as all sold out on the train.

A couple of quick question:

(1) what's the total number of business class seats on the Palmetto?

(2) since there are no pre-assigned seating(like airlines), what are the chances of

getting two seats together so we can sit together?

Sorry for the newbie questions... that's because this is only our 2nd

trip on Amtrak trains! :)

THANKS!

If you request to sit together the conductor will move a passenger if they have to. But they usually don't have to, they usually can (or will) assign seats at boarding using seat checks.

And remember, not everybody boards at the same time- its rare that a business class car will fill up at the origin, people get picked up and dropped off at station stops.

If the Palmetto is using its typical business class car, then there are no more than 10-15 seats in business class. However, apparently a full business class car has been running around on that train lately, in which case there would be upwards of 50 seats.

That depends where you are in line at boarding.

If you get on the Train at the beginning of the run, and you are standing near the front of the line (and can walk quickly to the Train once boarding begins), then you have an excellent chance of getting two seats together.

If you get on at a crowded station half-way through the run, and are at the back of the crowd among those boarding, then there would probably not be two empty seats together. It's still worth asking the conductor for help with seating, though...
