In the travelogue forum, qswager discusses the possibility of the Burlington selling/abandoning the old AT&SF Northern Route, and have Amtrak use the Belen Cutoff. That has to be some of the most boring rr country on the system. Plus, how will they fit a daily passenger train on that route considering it is already extremely busy and will only get busier?

May Mr. Mineta will authorize Amtrak to purchase it and give trackage rights to short line or regional frieght companies like the K&O. I know RAton Pass is a headache for for frieght, but what a loss that would be. Worse than Tennessee Pass.

They have downgraded it thought have'nt they? There is now no ATC on the live allowing for 90 MPH. It sure did''nt seem to me like we ever hit 90 anywhere between Alb. and Hutinson.
