Saw a news story on the price tag of the February 1 Wolverine accident on the Trains Mag website. Since their news stories are usually behind a paywall, found a local mlive.com news article update on the accident.

Based on reports to the FRA, the accident caused $2.3 million in damages tp Amtrak and the railroad. Quoting the article: "The derailment caused $2,281,720 in damage to equipment, $37,000 in damage to the track and $50,000 in damage to the semitrailer, according to the reports." Wonder what the odds are of recovering the full cost from the truck driver's or owner insurance company? With 16 injured, there will be a bunch of lawsuits as well.
