A couple threads here are reporting that Amtrak President Joseph Boardman is traveling to Pueblo, Colorado. President Boardman arrived in Chicago this morning on Amtrak #49, the Lake Shore Limited and left Chicago on today's #5, the California Zephyr. Traveling with the president is the Amtrak business cars Beech Grove and Pacific Cape plus the Great Dome Ocean View and Viewliner 62019. Looks like Phase IV heritage unit 184 is also on #5(27).

There are currently two ACS-64s at the test track near Pueblo. I'm guessing Joe Boardman and other officials are going to observe some tests or testing is nearly done and there will one of those big deal press conference things. Since there is already an ACS-64 in Wilmington, Delaware that would have made for a shorter trip, maybe the latter?
 
Hopefully you get some footage of Zypher heading through you area. But my guess is your going to see some footage released by Amtrak of the new locomotives pulling his train around the test track which probably could not happen yet on the NEC to go with the promotion event that looks like is going to happen out there in Colorado. Maybe its an announcement that the testing in Colorado is complete and the NEC testing can be ramped up!

How would Pueblo test for signal interference on the NEC? Pueblo tests for mechanical soundness.
BTW if everything goes well expect to see first use in service in October.
I beleive they do some electrical testing at Pueblo, including inductive interference tests that relate to signal and communications interference. Pueblo allows them to do that in a much cleaner electrical field environment than the NEC. That allows testing for spec compliance. The testing done on the NEC will be to see how things work with real track circuits and with all the ancillary induced currents and voltages of both Amtrak and utility facilities that affect those circuits.
 
If Mr. Boardman is heading out to Pueblo with two sleeping cars worth of officials... I would assume it's good news about the testing of the ACS-64.

Either that or he really wants to hook the Beech Grove up behind the ACS-64's and take it for a spin around the test track at 125 miles per hour!

Here's my video of Amtrak #5(27) at the station in Ottumwa, Iowa. This was a lot of firsts for me: first time seeing 184 on an Amtrak route, first time seeing four units on an Amtrak train (can it get any higher?), first time seeing a Viewliner, and first time seeing Amtrak's only dome car. However, I don't think I saw Joe Boardman.

That I agree with. My point was that testing against its operating environment on the NEC can only happen on the NEC.

I don't understand why Boardman and group doesn't ride SW Chief #3 to La Junta, uncouple there and go over to Test Track. Much closer than Denver to Test Track…..
 
The six wheel trucks on 10031 Dome Lounge - might somebody care to comment on them? Why six vs four? Weight? Smoother ride? Less rail wear? or??? And are these the new norm? Or somehow, though I doubt it, specific to 10031? ... just caught my eye - am so used to four wheel trucks.
 
NEC testing will begin THIS Wednesday, per the ACS-64 project mgr. He got the test "ok" on Friday while he wad riding the Zephyr east. He also told me prez Boardman was shortly heading to Pueblo. "OK" came from both Amtrak officials, and a sep "OK" from FRA
