Also had no cafe car on #8 of Jan 20 when I went to Whitefish last month. Story was a fire on the cafe before #28 left Portland. Good comps out of dining car though, so I didn't mind.

I'm on #8 of 2/19 now, just left Whitefish. Alls well except hour late. Attendant says this trainsets/crew as #7 return will end at MSP because of impending weather (big snowstorm) so pre-emptive cancellation.

A few weeks ago on a Seattle-Whitefish roundtrip on #7 and #8 I was pleased to find a new (to me) seat type in coach, both ways, that made it a LOT more comfortable sleeping for me. Same old-looking superliner coach, just new seats that were not the old cloth-covered type with the worn-out foam...

I have friends that had their #7 of Jan 9 departure from Chicago (for Essex) cancelled (notified today) already due to "service disruption". Seems way far in advance to anticipate impacts of the present situation like that! Any updates from @Acela150 or elsewhere on the current Empire Builder...

Anybody know if one can count on overnight parking available at Lawrence Kansas? Taking the SWC west, need to leave a car for one week. I know its listed on the station Amenities, but Google aerial photo doesn't seem to show many spaces. Thanks.

The Izaak Walton "live" cam looks like a series of occasional, time-stamped snapshots, not true live stream. Not sure of the update frequency but appears to be at least several an hour. No freight train visible there anymore this morning, so hopefully trains are moving through Marias Pass again!
