    My Journey Begins Tomorrow (11/7)

Got to Seattle safely everybody, it was a great trip and I will post a trip review in the next couple of days.

    My Journey Begins Tomorrow (11/7)

I agree, I was looking at some pictures and receipts from a trip to France about 10 years ago and considered tossing them, but couldn't bring myself to do it. The memories came flooding back, talk about train travel! Navigating an unfamiliar network in Paris and then the bullet trains AND not...

    My Journey Begins Tomorrow (11/7)

Yes, without wifi on most of the trip I will have plenty of time. Anyway, all trains running on time this morning, and I've confirmed all hotel rsvps. Currently doing last minute cleaning/packing along with a Barnes & Noble run for some stuff to read. And I was on Google streetview and...

Anyone else tired of "your crazy for taking the train" remarks

I've done my share of long drives and I did consider it for this trip but was concerned about weather in the mountains and my vehicles ability to handle that terrain along with the entirety of the trip as a whole, just not something I want to deal with. And even when I've used rental cars in...

    Doors didn't open

I'm so glad it worked out for you, I thought about your son's situation off/on yesterday. I wish him the best of luck with his military future. Peace. Edit to add: if he can handle sleeping under a table in freezing weather, then boot camp should be a cinch, perhaps even some kind of special...

Anyone else tired of "your crazy for taking the train" remarks

Ya know, now that you mention it, I did "convert" my grandmother when she was alive, and she was a diehard airplane fan, she never flew again after her first Amtrak journey and made several LD trips after that.

Anyone else tired of "your crazy for taking the train" remarks

If I was dealing with people that had those type of experiences I would probably state my feelings a lot differently; keeping in mind that people are prone to exaggerate the negatives to make their point. The problem with many Amtrak newbies is they expect the Hilton or the Hyatt when it comes...

LOL, your replies are giving me a good laugh because it all sounds so familiar. Keep them coming.

Anyone else tired of "your crazy for taking the train" remarks

Yesterday for the umpteenth time I had to defend my desire to travel in peace, comfort, and relaxation compared to the nightmare of the airport/airplane hassle; I get so tired of explaining to people all the positives to train travel and more importantly, the enjoyment I get from it. And...

    My Journey Begins Tomorrow (11/7)

So I will not be posting to the forums for the next several days unless absolutely necessary. But I will be keeping notes during my travels so I can post a thorough trip report. And thanks for all the tips, advice, and information; it helped a lot.

    Doors didn't open

First of all, my sincere apologies for your son having to endure such a terrible experience, helpless comes to mind. I know the feeling because I've had inner city buses do that to me. Sometimes it was their fault, some drivers are cruel or their having a bad day and take it out on passengers...

    Higher menu prices.

Looking forward to this, since I seem to be the only one in the country that doesn't like French Toast judging from the looks I get. I mean come on, who ever heard of dipping bread in eggs? /Bleh Edit: sp

Help! Badly overstuffed bag; need packing advice.

Thanks, I will try that, Martha Stewart had a couple good videos, but she completely contradicted Suzanne who said to put shoes on top, Martha put them on the bottom along with a couple of other people. I had no idea how many methods there were, including the "bundle" method, but it might prove...

Help! Badly overstuffed bag; need packing advice.

"Suzanne" from one of the advice sites (not sure I can name it) came to the rescue, but I'd still like to hear about any special tips you all might have relevant to train travel.
