    RR History

In the early to mid-50's I traveled from East Saint Louis, IL. to Atlanta, GA. via passenger train. IIRC, I left from the old L&N yard in ESTL. Any of our passenger experts have a clue as to what train this was? I appreciate anyone filling in the blanks.........

Very Bad Amtrak Review at my3cents.com

I, unfortunately, believe every word of the story. I've been treated rudely while deadheading on Amtrak. If the weasels will treat a fellow railroader rudely, anything is possible! Amtrak continues to be their own worst enemy.

    Gettin' Ready to Roll!

Thanks for the info, Mr. W. Decided long ago to avoid I-40/I-24 between 0500-0900 and 1500-1700.

    Gettin' Ready to Roll!

Will be taking the grandsons to North Carolina in June for our annual rafting trip. We break the trip up into 5-hour drives, and usually stay at the Drury on Donelson Pike (north of I-40) both coming and going.. Is this within walking distance of the commuter line? Thanks for any info.

Carter told the truth?! Pleaseeeeeeeeee!! You've surely forgotten his wild tale of being attacked by a rabbit, while in a boat?! :D :D :D :D :D :D Re: Grenada, IIRC, 63% of American's supported the invasion. Didn't Carter get the ball rolling for Grenada by granting asylum to Prime...

They won't remember it, Mr. Harris. It just doesn't fit their political agenda.

    Funding Amtrak

Over the past 35-years Amtrak has received less federal funding than we will spend on highways in just this fiscal year. What more needs to be said?

    The boss read my letter.

If you don't mind my asking, what address does one use to contact the high-command?

Chicago Meltdown appears to be in the works.

"In The Arena" The credit in life goes not to the critic who stands on the sideline and points out where the strong stumble. But rather, the real credit in life goes to the person who's actually in the arena. Who's face do sweat and dust mar. Who knows great enthusiam and great devotion and...

    58's arrival at Chicago.

Yes, they were a lifesaver!! That hunk of iron was very cold without any source of heat.

    58's arrival at Chicago.

The IC rides again! We leave Carbondale, (MP305.7) with one unit, a 32-year old GP-38, and 10-loads of coal. Don't misunderstand me here, those GP-38's are some of the finest ever built. BUT, they're old and poorly maintained. We get almost to Dowell Jct., (MP290.4) and the poor thing gives it...
