Risk of points expiration during transition to AGR 2.0?

I haven't paid attention to my AGR for years due to life throwing some curve balls insofar as travelling -- happened to get an email today and out of the blue I clicked on it and discovered I have 49000 points! So, I called Amtrak and was told my points would expire 1/214/2016 OR if I did...

    Another Companion Coupon question

When I have used these I've always had to go to a station so I would assume the answer to your question is yes... I believe they re-do the ticket after presentation of the voucher.

    NTD Attendee Poll

Glad NTD in on the 7th as we have planned on visiting CHI that weekend anyway :) It was the first NTD that got us hooked on Amtrak and also Chicago and both have gotten a fair amount of $$ from us since then!!

    Delays out of Chicago

We were delayed boarding on the LSL this past Sunday, mechanical -- '480' cables had to be repaired -- then of course after that, they had to get the train ready, etc before boarding could begin. We were given small bottles of water and some snack packs (aka Amtrak emergency food per label on box)

BREAKING NEWS - FIRE ON AMTRAK TRAIN OUTSIDE CLEVELAND!

We rode this train Sunday night/Monday morning. It left CHI 3+ hours late due to some '480' cables having to be replaced. Arrived at our station 6+hours late. This was after leaving the day before on the LSL running 3+ hours late. At least we made it both ways. Many of the passengers out of CHI...

Companion Vouchers... where are people getting these?

Yes exactly what I thought about the agents :) And now I totally understand what you are saying about the white paper copy, duh lol

Companion Vouchers... where are people getting these?

So, then, agents should take them even if on plain white paper/card stock as long as a member's information is printed on them? I would have thought that just those on the special paper stock with what looks like a shiny Amtrak logo would be the only ones accepted...

Companion Vouchers... where are people getting these?

In the past, I've been able to 'obtain' these vouchers even though I'm not select... I was always afraid that they were counterfeit though... This year I've seen some that were 'available' that were printed on special paper that showed logos on it, vs. other that are printed on just plain white...

    CZ west or EB east

All of this information is very much appreciated! Any months to avoid when travelling? I assume winter can be iffy in the mountain area(s)? Outside of having the Metropolitan Lounge in PDX, any reason to not take the CS up to Seattle (have never been there...)? Are the bedding furnishings...

    CZ west or EB east

Hi all, I'm in the process of accumulating enough points to take the train from CLE (well, cash to CLE then points from TOL) to West Coast and fly back... or vice versa :) Sleeper of course..! From what I've read on this forum, seems the CZ going west, then the CS up to Portland or Seattle...

A question I feel is often asked: Luggage in Chicago

I believe there may be a maximum per day charge. Yes it's pricey but can be worth it since you cram alot in there and it sure beats lugging stuff around while trying to see the sights :)

A question I feel is often asked: Luggage in Chicago

Well, yes, but when you think about it, the common practice of checking baggage in a hotel before/after checkout could pose a risk too...

A question I feel is often asked: Luggage in Chicago

Indeed if you do a search, esp of trip reports, you will find good info about spending time in Chicago. Close to Union Station is the Willis (formerly Sears) Tower, Giordano's pizza. As far as storing luggage, etc. there are lockers for rent in the baggage claim area (also some in boarding area...

Thanks, just applied! Thanks to an earlier credit card number compromise by a different company, I have 'protection' on my account so no credit card can be opened instantly.... have to wait now to see if I can expand the Amtrak points trip I want to plan Edited to add: received notification...
