    Clean and Comfortable

On our worst trip (the New Years Day Northbound Star) there was a very drunk man groping women as they passed him. Another woman and I alerted the conductor that we had been groped and the man was put in an inside seat with a large conductor on the aisle. He was put off at the next stop. I...

    Clean and Comfortable

My parents refuse to travel on a train because of an experience they had in 1985. Train travel is MUCH different than it was back then. To me, it feels cleaner, safer and more comfortable than it did back then. I ride coach Philadelphia to West Palm Beach and back at least once or twice a...

How do you pack so much?

Try places like Big Lots or Ross. I see them in there all the time. If not there, I know the AAA around here has them but they're really expensive, as is everything at AAA. If you've got time to wait for the shipping, I see sets of 6 for about $10 including delivery on Ebay.

How do you pack so much?

Try those travel space bags. They do work and save a lot of space especially if you're packing things like sweaters and blankets. Won't save you much space on things like jeans though so leave those out. Just make sure you get the ones that are specifically for travel and don't need a vacuum...

    Portable GPS

I just use my old TomTom. It could stand to be replaced, that's for sure, but it's what's already paid for so until it quits, I don't plan to quit using it.

    Quiet cars? Newbie Tips?

If another passenger is bothering you, just tell one of the staff and they will address the issue. Your complaint has to be reasonable of course (ie- let the person behind you have a 10 minute phone conversation without complaint) but if it's excessive time/volume, they're usually happy to help...

What wouldn't you pack on your next trip?

A power strip. I never travel alone and in coach, there's 1 plug per seat on the Silvers. I kept taking a power strip thinking I would need it but never did. 1 plug seems to be enough for my purposes and if it's not, my seatmate has never had a problem letting me use theirs for a while.

    Cell Phone Headache

I don't necessarily agree with the blocking as much as I agree with common courtesy. I mean, really, does anyone want to listen to someone elses' conversation for that long? keep your convos on your phone short and sweet. We all thank you.

    Age Limit in Cafe Car

No. there certainly are, I'm sure, but even as an American touring another American city, I've never felt as welcome as I did in Canada.

    Age Limit in Cafe Car

I agree with the poster before who said that it's a "sad country." I work for a Canadian based company and I can tell you that that most of the Canadians I know who have spent a good amount of time here are horrified by the way that some Americans conduct themselves. I've always found...

    unplanned stowaways

Hmm.. don't remember that in particular. It's been a long time since I read them but they're still on my shelf. You already had me thinking that I should re-read them. That might be my go-to when I finish the book I'm reading now.

Which book is that from? I've read the whole Hitchhikers' Guide series but none of his other work.

    awful delays

Oh.. forgot about sick days... Sick days are unlimited where I work but they reserve the right to ask for a doctors note for absences longer than 3 days and/or if they think you're taking an excessive amount.

    awful delays

I work (in the US) for a Canadian company. Everyone there always moans and groans at all the paid holidays they get at our Canadian offices that we have no equivalent to at our US offices. I think they get about 5 or 6 more paid, scheduled holidays a year than we do. Our personal time (5...

Well the incidents in question involved an unwelcome grope and someone exposing themself. They were both quite drunk.

    UpGrade Aboard the Texas Eagle

that's good to know as we've never booked a sleeper and we always arrive in CC from Chestnut Hill at least an hour or two ahead. Would be nice to have a 1st class place to hang out on the eve of our wedding cruise...

    Age Limit in Cafe Car

As a 31 year old woman, there were 2 trips in the past few years that I was uncomfortable walking around alone on. As I've personally been unfortunate enough to meet people on Amtrak trains that were not "female friendly," I would probably be concerned about letting a child or teen roam about...
