How would you go to Birmingham?

Seriously, driving from Memphis to Birmingham is in no way "much longer" than driving from Jackson. In fact, it's the exact same distance over roads of the exact same quality. US-78 from Memphis to Birmingham is interstate quality for all but about the last 3 miles where it intersects I-65...

    New (BHM) Station

It's six blocks from the train station to the Greyhound station. I wouldn't call that far away. BHM's biggest problems right now are the station is a dump (and smells like a cesspool), and it's in a neighborhood I don't like to go to even in broad daylight.

    New (BHM) Station

Yet, I can still count on one hand the number of people that get on or off in BHM most of the time.

    Washington DC in Winter?

I wouldn't walk around New York Avenue in broad daylight, much less at night.

Remember when people has class LOL

Do you wear a life vest on a cruise ship too, just in case?

    Thanks for the cool pics.

    Maryland Style Crab

No, that's just it. We eat CRABcakes. Not tartar sauce cakes. And certainly not cocktail sauce cakes. Save the cocktail sauce for your shrimp and the (shudder) tartar sauce for your Filet-o-Fish ;)

Amtrak taken to task on Fox last night

"Later, much later"? Seriously? Shannon Bream reported at 10:08 that the individual mandate was struck down, based on the initial reading that it was unconstitutional under the commerce clause. One minute later - ONE MINUTE - Megyn Kelly reported (correctly) that it was upheld as a tax. If...

    Maryland Style Crab

What part of MaRyland did you come from where they traditionally serve tartar sauce with a crab cake? In 42 years in Baltimore, that's just weird to me. A good crabcake doesn't need any kind of "sauce".

Amtrak Passenger services may return to the Gulf Coast

Um, no. The 249 track miles are from NEW ORLEANS to Pensacola, not Mobile to Pensacola. Your 58 road miles become 104 by detouring through Flomaton, adding only 46 miles to the straight line distance, not 191 like you calculate above. The train took 2.5 hours to cover that distance, and I...

    Amtrak Superliner vs Boeing 737

Don't forget, no one spends 2 days on a 737, either. It's apples and oranges. You should put a cruise ship in there for comparison, too.

    Amtrak Superliner vs Boeing 737

In reality, most 737-800s aren't configured for 175. That's an absolute maximum, and most are configured for 152-160.

    Tornadoes and Amtrak

Amazing story, from construction to destruction.

    Tornadoes and Amtrak

It wasn't a tornado, it was a hurricane. The labor day hurricane of 1935 that blew the FECRR away in Islamorada, Florida, ending the 23 year service on the overseas railroad.

    Name That Station!

Thanks for the lesson, I didn't realize that, and I go through Charlottesville on the Crescent regularly. Of course, lately it's been dark, but that's changing, so I'll pay closer attention next time.

    Name That Station!

Just wondering, how can you tell its a Cardinal and not a Crescent?

Lancaster Airport, Keystone Service, and some random thoughts.

I didn't blame Cessna, and I didn't blame McDonnell Douglas. Nor did I blame it being a piston engine. Nine seats, especially in that weird arrangement, is simply too many for the tiny cabin of a 402C.

What to see near New York Penn station 4.5 hour layover

They do in Staten Island, don't they?

What to see near New York Penn station 4.5 hour layover

Lanes? Ha, they don't recognize the existance of lanes. They can fit at least 4 or 5 wide on a three lane street ;)
