Going on a 10 day trip out to the west coast and back coming up in the end of May, I've done the cross country trip on Amtrak before but its been a couple years and I can't remember all the consist info and where rooms are and etc, I was hoping to get a better idea of where our cars will be on the train and anything cool to look out for during the trip

Train #1:

NorthEast Regional #174 PHL-NYP Coach (nothing to know here, been on the regional hundreds of times.

Train #2:

#49 Lake Shore Limited NYP-CHI

Car 4912

Train #3

#7 Empire Builder CHI-SEA

Car 0731

Train #4

#11 Coast Starlight SEA-EMY

Car 1130

Train #5

#6 California Zephyr

Car 0633

Train #6

#48 Lake Shore Limited

Car 4811

I realize with the two LSL's that we will either be right next to or one car away from the diner and the sleepers will be in the back, but i can't remember how the car numbering system works for the order.

For the EB, CZ are the sleepers in the front or back?

pretty sure they are still up front for the Starlight (at least they were last time i rode it)

thanks for the help!

On the Empire Builder, you will be at the front of the train, with car 0730 between you and the diner.

There are several ways to find out what the sights are along the way:

• Inputs from forum members here

• Amtrak Route Guides http://www.amtrak.com/route-guides

• Follow along the routes from above using Google Earth

• Use scrollable USGS topo maps to get more terrain and trackside details http://www.mytopo.com/maps/index.cfm

• Videos posted on YouTube.

Sometimes its really difficult to determine which way the Amtrak route goes. This is a big help when you get lost: http://asm.transitdocs.com/ One of the little-known details that can be found on the topo maps is the name often seen adjacent to a siding or short spur track. I think these names were given by railroad workers when the tracks were initially laid. I think.

I would suggest removing your Room numbers from the post.

Be aware that you'll be able to use the ClubAcela lounge in Philly and NYP IF you're making a same day connection in NYP. If not NYP only on your day of travel.

CZ sleepers are on the rear and yours looks like an extra sleeper that will be on the tail end.
