2012-13 Blackout Dates Preview

Based on the above quasi-official source (a sweepstakes promotion involving Amtrak trips - and corresponding blackout dates), it seems that in 2012-13, blackout dates will include the following dates before June 30:

February 17, 2012

February 20, 2012

April 5-6, 2012

April 9, 2012

May 25, 2012

Now, it appears that they're going to stick to the practice of blacking out the front end of Memorial Day weekend but not the back end. They've also replaced Easter Sunday with Maundy Thursday (aka Holy Thursday).

It is interesting (but I guess great for us) that they only black out the Friday and Monday of President's Day weekend. I traveled on acela BOS - NYP and back again on Saturday and Sunday this week (so President's Day weekend) and both trains I was on were sold out. I also tried to switch to an earlier acela on Saturday but it was also sold out so I couldn't.
