was on the train today and the guy in back of me asked the conductor if there was a loud car.. the conductor said well there's no car where you can sing and dance and play ping ball but you can talk on yur phone in this car (it was a non-QC) car.. thought that was cute..

A loud car? Could the 'loud car' be the back seat of a police car they put unruly passengers into after they have been escorted off a train? :giggle: Kind of like the guy they took off #20 Thursday morning in Nelson County, Virginia. From the news report it looked like he got pretty 'loud' in the cruiser when they were taking him to the county lock up.

On the other hand, with the rude behavior I've witnessed in coach at times, maybe Amtrak needs to start putting a stock car on trains so the animals have some place to ride and not disturb other passengers.

Maybe this passenger rides the Metra in Chicago. They now have "Family cars" which is the equivalent of the loud car.

The TGV ID Night in France actually has both a quiet car and a loud car, called ZEN and ZAP..... you can book either one online.

But I would assume that the loud car is simply every car that is not a quiet car.

Here is a story from the French news on the new Quiet AND Loud train -

The Loud Car was retired back in the early 90s when they stopped the Montrealer.
I miss that car......sniff, sniff. The train too.
You know, as much as I'm not a party person most of the time, I think I would have enjoyed the experience as well (so long as I could check into my hotel right away so I could crash!).
And a party it was, especially over the winter holidays. I remember on more than one occaison a collection being taken in the lounge car so that a case of beer could be bought before alcohal was no longer served for the night. The lounge car actually worked pretty well at keeping the party out of coach and the sleepers.

Back in the mid 80's I was young enough to pull the all nighter in Le Pub. Took the Montrealer a couple times to Montreal then VIA on to Quebec City to ski Mte. Ste. Anne. Back then VIA was still running the F Units and Alcos.

I've almost wished that some NEC Regionals had a flat spotted "loud" car where the wheels have been ground flat by excessive braking. Not only will it get your attention but you won't be able to scream on the cell phone nor hear it either.

The TGV loud car reminds me of the "rave train" that I think Deutsche Bahn ran in the 1990s

One of the conductors on #28 a few months ago referred to the SSL as the “loud car”, and encouraged people to come sing, dance, and party all the way to SPK.
