I'm looking into a trip to Montreal this summer to relearn some of my French. I was thinking of heading to NYC for a night and then taking the Adirondak. However, now that Megabus is offering service from Toronto to Pittsburgh, I was thinking of doing a big circle with a few days in Toronto either before or after.

Has anyone used Via on the Toronto/Montreal route? And is there better daylight scenery going south on the Adirondak or north?

Southbound from Montreal to NY depending on delays and the time of year could see you missing some of the scenery due to darkness. Also some of the best scenery is along the Hudson River and southbound if you have light, it coudl be the light of the setting sun in your eyes when trying to look at the river.

Northbound you're guaranteed to see it all.

And I've done the VIA route from Montreal to Toronto. Nothing super exciting IMHO, but it's still a nice ride.
