Albany-Rensselaer to NY Penn station and back

Guys,

Will be in Albany NY soon and was thinking on catching a train to NY City for a couple of days to tour. Can you suggest the most on time train(s) between these two cities? I know the LSL and other trains originate from cities quite some distance away and the chances of them running late are greater. Also, any hotel\motel recommendations in the Albany area? Unfortunately, having to fly into Albany due to time restrictions. Thanks in advance for your comments.
