There is now considerable evidence from usually trustworthy sources appearing at various places on the net that Silver Meteor will get Traditional Dining around the 25th of June. As usual, take it with a grain of salt, but it seems more or less trustworthy to me at this time having known some of the sources personally.

Ayuh. Summer starts here on July 4 and runs until August 15th.
Well, I once got up to the cabin on June 28, and the lake was too cold for swimming, but it was OK a day or two later. But it stays warm right through August, and once I stayed over Labor Day weekend, and the lake was still warm enough for swimming.

The way I see it, if it is in the month of June I will be perfectly happy. My fear always was that it will slip to November or something like that. But I would also not count my chicken until the eggs actually hatch either.

Meanwhile if someone wishes to have a technical argument with Chestler about 5 days, have a go at it. Seems pointless to me though, since there are much bigger things to discuss with him.

Some additional information has been posted on Facebook by an Silver Service OBS person. Apparently Silver Meteor is going down to two Sleepers from three, and when that happens on or around the 25th of June, the 10 car will be a VL1 and the 11 car a VL2 like on the Star.

Again as usual, take it with a pinch of salt but do check your reservations, and if you are in the 12 car on the Meteor after June it may be a good idea to give Amtrak a call and get moved.

Rumor has it that traditional dining is returning to the Silver Meteor on June 24th.

The bad news... it will lose a sleeper car.

I did not major in economics, but if this is true Amtrak appears to be increasing costs and decreasing revenue.

I am just glad that I already booked my son on the Meteor for a trip in December. I have a feeling that low bucket sleeper prices are going to be very rare.

Contrary to that article, my deep throat source says that the Silver Meteor will have four Coaches, not three after June 24th. But of course we will see.

Nothing is known about what will happen in December. That will be determined when they work out the Winter Timetable allocations. But it is probably safe to assume that both trains will have at least two Sleepers.

The meteor was down one sleeping car when it returned. If this reduction is true I’m sure it will return at some point. It’s probably not the worse thing that they’re starting off the traditional dining with only two sleepers so as not to overload the diner crews. Additionally TBH I’d be surprised if they regularly fill all 3 sleepers that time of year - there’s probably other places that sleeper would have more utility that time of year at least until they get more VL1 sleepers out of mothballs.

My prognostication is that both the Silvers will get three Sleepers within 24 months or so.

Wait! In this YouTube video at the 4:47 mark, there appears to be bath amenities on the shelf above the folding sink in the roomette on the Silver Star! They are almost hidden from view behind the face cloths.

This was on the TE\SL on 4/14/23. Also had them on the CL on 4/17/23IMG_6885.jpeg

They were in my bedroom on the Silver Star last month.
