Currently on 91 (departed NYP 4/30) about 30 minutes north of Palatka, FL. We are stopped due to a death onboard the Auto Train ahead of us!

So sorry to hear about the death. I know what it is like to be on a train when a passenger has died.
Hopefully your train will not be delayed too long. BTW, welcome to Florida. The weather is much better today than it was over the weekend.
I’m on Silver Star 91. The consist is the same as it was when I rode in March. We have 3 coaches, one Lounge, a diner, one VL1 Sleeper, one VL2 sleeper, and a baggage car. If I remember, the Star used to always run with 4 coaches. All three coaches looked pretty packed going out of DC this trip and back in March. Is this due to an equipment shortage?
Saw the Meteor arrive in Baltimore this morning. Looks like they had 3 VL sleepers in the consist.
We passed the Meteor a while ago. 3 sleepers, first was V2, then a V1, then another V2.
Meteor has had three Sleepers since it restarted and there are rumors that it will lose one sometime in late June when it gets traditional dining. So until then, Meteor having three Sleepers is not surprising news.
As for additional Sleepers, more newsworthy stuff might come to pass in the next few months on the LSL than on Silver Service.

You're right. I had forgotten that the Super Star was running with four Sleepers for a while before its discontinuance. When they split it into two trains, each got two Sleepers. The third Sleeper came back to the Meteor, as you say, a little later. Thanks for the correction.

I was on the Meteor (98 5/8) from KIS to NYP. The SCA was the worst I’ve ever dealt with! He grumbled about why we didn’t check our suitcases. He heaved sighs and fussed about other passengers making a mess when we asked to eat our Flex Lunch in our room. He never showed up to make up the room for the night (we did it ourselves). When he appeared the next morning and saw we had already put the room into day mode, he said he had to make up the room “the Amtrak way”! In doing so, he poured out the rest of my rum I saved from the disgusting Salmon Flex Dinner the previous night! He was tardy in opening the exit door at Penn Station and didn’t offer to place our luggage on the platform. My tip stayed in my pocket!
This so called SCA needs to be reported and Retrained or De-Trained!

Yup. It started with 5 Sleepers. When I traveled on it, each time it had 5 Sleepers. But a few months before it ended, one Sleeper was dropped and it was down to four Sleepers. When the two Silvers were restored, it was the 4 Sleeper version that was split into two so each landed up with two Sleepers for a while. A little later the third Sleeper was restored to the Meteor. Rumor has it that the third Sleeper will be temporarily withdrawn when it gets traditional dining.
Will be taking the 98 fr. DLD to FBG next weekend. Looking forward to verifying these fascinating details. I'll take my own snacks and liquid refreshments. May eat one FlexMeal. They aren't usually too bad. Some have been downright tasty. But I live in a small town with ordinary restaurants.

Heads up, got this message from a reliable Amtrak employee onboard when I was on 92 two days ago:
The good news is traditional dining begins on June 26th on Trains 97/98, however the bad news is 9712/9812 sleeper cars are being eliminated from the consist.
So we will see what happens on that day.

A facebook poster who says he is a Silver Service LSA posted that Amtrak had officially notified them of the same.
He said in a later reply that 10 would be the VL1 and 11 the VL2, but he didn't say whether that had been officially communicated.
He also said that Amtrak had not said whether or not the 3rd sleepers would be returning in the future.

Good ol’ Amtrak. Reducing capacity raises prices and insures additional staffing not needed for traditional dining. I hate being cynical but….
I'm assigned to 12--which may be a VL II. I've never been in a VLII but it seems inconvenient to need to schlep down the hall to use a toilet...esp. at 2AM.

Is it possible that the sleepers are being transferred to another route? It seems too asinine for even AMTRAK to pull two functioning, staffed sleepers that it could otherwise be using for no reason. I faintly remember the Silvers swapping sleepers because their high season is everywhere else’s low.
Yes, 12 is a VL 2 until June 26.

I'm booked on the Crescent in car 2012 on an early August date.
Train 20 is the Crescent. We're talking about trains 97 & 98, the Silver Meteor.
The line numbers (that's the proper term for the numbers we're talking about) differ among routes, and I don't know what they are on the Crescent.
Maybe he was saying that your comment "transferred to different market" could mean to the Crescent.
