Yes, this also was my guess (although I thought that they just unleashed some "wild" computer algorithm).

The pricing, in general, stopped making sense.

For example, the price for a Family Bedroom started at $787 (the highest bucket).

At the same time, the price for a [regular] Bedroom was $332.

If you have 4 people, it would be actually cheaper to buy and co-join TWO BEDROOMS

(with a tremendous increase in space) than to cram everybody into a Family Bedroom.

In years past, joining 2 bedrooms was always the most expensive (and the most "luxurious" option).

All these natural "relations" between different types of accommodation seem to be out of the window

this year.

are these checks being made on the same computer without cookies being cleared? many travel companies (flights, holiday companies and hotels included) websites now store cookies on PC's which will boost the price if it records you checking the same journey etc for the same date in a bid to try and make you panic buy.

Not sure if Amtrak is doing this or not but many companies are and the best way to ensure you get the cheapest price available is to clear your cookies before getting a quote
