I have been through LA Union Station once before a few years ago (before the Metro Lounge) and used the baggage storage room there for my bags while gone riding the Red line to play tourist in Hollywood for an afternoon. Now that the Metropolitan Lounge there is open, does one still need to store bags in the same place (the baggage storage counter downstairs on the other end) or does the new Metro Lounge there have its own baggage storage room ala Chicago? Thanks.

The Metro Lounge in LA is much smaller than in Chicago. Makes sense, many fewer sleeper passengers. If you ask the attendent about luggage storage, he will indicate a space along the wall. If you ask if it is safe, he will take that as a personal offense it seems. At train time there will be Red Caps with carts right outside the back door. They will take you and your luggage to your train and you should tip them. Otherwise it's a long walk back down the elevator, through the tunnel and up the ramp.

You can store your bags for free in the Metro Lounge! When you check in ask the helpful attendant where they want to you leave them.

If you leave them @ the bag check downstairs the standard Amtrak charge of $4 per bag applies!
