I'm going to try to keep this simple. It would be nice to get a definite answer. There are quite a few here who know just about everything Amtrak. For answers we cannot ascertain, maybe someone (Alan?) has an inside friend at Amtrak who can set us straight.
Let's put ourselves in a telephone agent's chair. A potential customer calls and says:
"I'm going from Chicago to San Francisco. I'm going to bring my pillow and sleeping bag. I plan to sleep in the SSL. Is that OK? If it is, is there a time I must be up or can I lay there all day?"
I know this will bring out the loonies and comedians...and that's alright. But, I'd also like to get the official Amtrak position on this. I read in the BLUE BOOK that the lounge closes at midnight. Does that answer the question?
