Can anyone explain why these two options show up when I try to book a train from Worcester MA to Rochester NY on December 19? To me they look like the exact same trains - only one appears to show a transfer (maybe?).

$84.00 449 Lake Shore Limited

Departs Worcester, MA (WOR) 12:58 pm

Arrives Rochester, NY (ROC)11:00 pm

10h 2m Dining car, Lounge, Checked baggage 1 Reserved Coach Seat

$84.00 449 Lake Shore Limited

Departs Worcester, MA (WOR) 12:58 pm

Arrives Albany-Rensselaer, NY (ALB) 5:35 pm

4h 37m Lounge, Checked baggage 1 Reserved Coach Seat

49 Lake Shore Limited

Departs Albany-Rensselaer, NY (ALB) 7:05 pm

Arrives Rochester, NY (ROC) 11:00 pm

3h 55m Dining car, Lounge, Checked baggage

Thanks in advance!!!

Because the Boston section (449) of the Lake Shore Limited combines with the NY section (49) at Albany. There are occasions where one or the other section may sell out west of Albany, or perhaps even be cheaper, so the computer offers both choices.

Since the price is the same right now, book the first one and you'll have a one seat ride to Rochester. With the second choice, you might have to change seats in Albany.

Thank you very much Alan. This forum is fabulous.

I feel like a &$^#@% travel agent with these kids in college!
