Has anyone heard specifics about the CN tracks between Hammond and New Orleans.

I read in the travel section intoday's Tribune that hotels in New Orleans would soon be open for business, and that the french quarter would be ok. I am thinking about a trip down their in November if this is the case.

I believe that the tracks are open into NOL on CN. Last reports that I saw, only CSX remains out of commision into NOL.

All other RR's NS, BNSF, CN are up and running into NOL. Most however are not carrying any freight destined for NOL, they are simply interchanging with one another to keep freight flowing across the US.

No word on when Amtrak service might resume into NOL. Best guess is that it's still at least a few weeks away, but probably more likely mid to late October. Got to have some hotels and resturants up and running, before one can run the trains back to NOL.

The trib said some hotels would be up by the beginning of October, so maybe it is looking better for me. New Orleans is a great city, and I want to show my support for it by going back.

At this point in time i have not heard anything on that issue.The main issue right now is to get NOL open and the trains running into the station NOL.

Last reports that I saw, only CSX remains out of commision into NOL.

And it now looks like it will be out of action for quite some time.

It moves about 15,000 train carloads through Mississippi annually, providing service to 30 industries. It hopes to restore the line in six months.
