Coast Starlight Route before 1982

I read somewhere that before 1982, CS bypasses Sacramento and used the track from Davis to Tehama line. Anybody remember this route? I always drive on I-5 from Bay Area to Colusa, CA and see this railroad tracks which parallels I-5. I'm wondering if this is the line used by CS before 1982.
