It would be my first time in a sleeper, only booked b/c it was a last minute schedule change and booking the room was actually cheaper than coach to WAS then coach on a regional up to NYP.... this should prove, interesting to say the least. Bought a scanner too for this trip to see how it enhanced things..

Yeah, it was weird. A certain member of these boards (Stephen....) says I'll become addicted.

I am too pragmatic to do CHI-ALC or ALC-WAS like this again, but, I had no choice really. It was cheaper for the sleeper. It's too bad the CL is, as usual, late-- so I'll probably get into my room around 4AM and have to wake for breakfast around eight...

I'm on 50/5 to oakland in 3 weeks. i'm counting down the days as well. I can even hear the train's horn in the middle of the night like it is calling me to come and go for a ride. :) Normally I don't hear the horn because it id quite a ways off.

Me too!

You hear that? It's calling me again! I must go! :p
I do too during the summer when at camp. I happens at least 3 times during the night and I can tell a few minutes before it happens because the trains need to climb uphill first and the strain of the engine can be heard. My wife hasn't caught me woo-wooing just before he whistle sounds... yet! :D

When I eventually move I'll be able to hear it from that location also and then it will be year round!

I guess I'm already hooked then-& I haven't even got on the train yet! I monitor the cz & cs arrivals whenever possible, & can hear the cz arrive most of the time at night. In fact it's due to arrive about now!!!! Blast it was early!! I missed the whoo-whoo! :(

Once on the train,

Ever on the brain.

'Cause being on track

Means you'll never look back.

Burma Shave!
Oh my! I barely remember those signs! I was pretty little when Burma Shave was popular.
Aloha

I sure remember seeing those signs as I drove from NYC to LAX. I also think there is a web site that has a catalog of the different locations/sayings. A large part of my route for that drive in '63 was ROUTE 66.
