Yes you can, or could some years ago. But be careful to be sure the insurance covers Canada.
That was a main reason of my journey 2 years ago!
1. The flight from Frankfurt to Seattle was about 100 $ cheaper than to Vancouver (my actual goal!)
2. The rental car (for two weeks) was about 70 $ cheaper in Seattle than in Vancouver
(After that trip I realized that the USA part was too short,so next time I´ll make it longer)
I had a car from Alamo and it was no Problem to drive to Canada.
But I know there is a problem to drive to Mexico!
Last time I had only problems understanding "NEXUS" at the boarder.
I drove on the right lane and saw a sign with "NEXUS" on it..........NEXUS?
I thought:Is it a new Japanese car-type?
While I drove on and pondered about it,It was suddenly to late to change the lane since a camper was beside me and other cars behind me!
So in this moment I was in the "NEXUS" lane and the story went on with a very confused Dirk at the customs.
But the Canadian customs were very friendly and everything went well!
("NEXUS" is a frequent traveler program and I was wrong like hell)
But I have no clue what to expect on the ferry route......
Maybe the customs check the passengers on board or it will happen in the harbour of Victoria.......
Oh....i´m afraid it turns into off-topic........sorry!
You can, but it depends on the car rental company, so call around. Also, they tend to put a surcharge on for that.
