TRENTON, N.J. — Authorities say four people were fatally struck by trains in the Northeast.

The first death occurred in Mercer County in New Jersey on Thursday morning when Amtrak's Keystone 642 train hit a person near the Hamilton Township station.

The second accident occurred in New York City when a 48-year-old woman was crushed by a subway train on Thursday afternoon.

Police spokesman Paul Browne says may have tried to retrieve a bag on the tracks.

On Thursday evening, a man was struck by a New Jersey Transit commuter train near the East Orange station.

And Amtrak says someone was hit about 9:15 p.m. in Philadelphia by a Northeast Regional train.

The accidents caused travel delays, but no one aboard the trains was hurt.
