There are certain things you just have to do before your time is up on this earthly sphere, and taking a cross-country trip on trains, complete with sleeping accommodations, is one of them. Back in the '70's I did Amtrak from New York to Florida to Chicago to LA to San Francisco.... all in coach. I just learned that I have a longer break between jobs than expected and am ready to do it right this time, both directions, with the sweetheart I married.

Thanks to the creator of this forum! I know how much work these things can be.

I too used to ride only coach, but now ride mostly sleepers. You made a great choice!

Be sure that you sign up (if you haven't already) for Amtrak Guest Rewards (AGR) before your trip - for both of you. In time, it may reward you with enough points for a FREE trip! There is currently a promotion where you can get bonus sign up points if you are referred by someone. I will be glad to refer you if you PM me.
