Greetings: In reading the current Amtrak schedule(p119) it appears that the North American Rail Pass no longer requires that one actually take an Amtrak trip to/from Canada. It states that: "the itinerary must include at least one segment of travel on each carrier" So in other words, it's now legal to take your Amtrak trips in the US, fly to Canada, take your VIA trips there and fly back to the states. Yes? If so this is a very positive change, in my opinion. Can anyone confirm that I have interpreted this correctly. Thanks,

Ed

It states that: "the itinerary must include at least one segment of travel on each carrier"
However, on the Amtrak Website it still states:

"Conditions

* Your trip must include at least one journey between the United States and Canada.

* Your trip must include travel on Amtrak and Via Rail Canada."

What IS new are the USA Rail Passes, now available to Americans, offering 15 or 30 days of travel through part or all of the USA, with no requirements about Canada, and all for a fair price (depending on the Season).

Certainly worth a good look.
