I am a serious train buff, but new to train travel. I am thinking about taking a long Amtrak trip to visit friends and relatives around the country. It would be something like this:
Maricopa AZ to Beaumont TX.
Beaumont to Ft Lauderdale FL.
Ft Lauderdale to Minneapolis MN.
Minneapolis back to Maricopa AZ.
I have spoken with a travel agent and am familiar with the train connections I would have to make, and the cost etc.
I have questions about the things you won't find in the brochures though.
Questions like How timely are the trains? Am I likely to miss many connections?
If I get a bedroom without a bath, how busy are the showers and other bathroom facilities? Will the lounge car be packed? Etc.
In short, I guess I am wondering if this will be a fun adventure or am I biting off more than I want. I am an adventurous person, but I just don't like too many unpleasant surprises.
I thank you for any input and advice.
