I will be taking the excellent advice of members here and will be utilizing the services of Red Caps in BOS and NYP for my trip next week from BOS to DFB. Because I am traveling in a roomette, I will also use the facilities of the Club Acela's in both cities.

My question is where will I be able to first encounter/make contact with a Red Cap at these two stations. In other words, how far will I have to schlep my luggage.

In Boston, I will be arriving by taxi and believe that is at the Atlantic Avenue entrance to South Station. I am only vaguely familiar with South Station. I understand where the location of the Club Acela is from a previous forum discussion. Will I be able to find a Red Cap to help with the luggage near where I arrive.

In NYP I will, of course, be arriving via train. Having never been in NYP, I don't have a clue as to the layout and club Acela.

Will the Red Caps take the luggage/accompany me to the platform or directly to the train/car I will be riding.

Thanks for any help.

John

I'm not sure if in BOS the Red Caps meet the taxis. If they don't, and you said you know the layout of South Station, the Red Caps are right by the door of the Club Acela (CA).

On the train to NYP, ask the conductor that you would like Red Cap assistance at NYP. They can radio ahead, but usually there are many waiting on the platform. They will take you and your bags right to the CA. When you check in at the CA, ask for a Red Cap to get to the train. (Normally the desk asks you anyway.) then the Red Cap will come right to the CA and escort you right to the train.

I have never seen the Red Caps waiting outside where the taxis drop off in BOS. If you can manage to drag the stuff into the station and over to the Club Acela (next to the where the ticket sales are, must ring the bell) , you shoudl be able to get a redcap there. As I mentioned in another thread, you will want to leave your stuff with the redcap before going into the club, because otherwise you will have to drag all your luggage up a flight of stairs in BOS. The redcaps will come collect you about 20 minutes before the train is departing and they will pre-board you before they open up the gate.

When you come into NYP, there are generally redcaps that are bringing pax down to your train. Once they finish up with those folks, then can bring you and your stuff up to the Club Acela. If you don't see one and can manage to bring your stuff up to the Club Acela, it is near the 8th Avenue side. Again you have to ring a bell to get in.

If you haven't already engaged a redcap, make sure you say that you would like one when you check in at the desk in the Club Acela. Again, the redcap will come and collect you before the track is announced (generally), and then you will go with the redcap and your luggage to the train. Just remember to tip appropriately.

Have a nice trip!

Have a good trip.

That said, I must mention how much I dislike your choices of font and color. It does not, to me, in any way enhance your post. If anything it is off-putting.

OK,

Just so I don't irritate anybody else, I will not use the font/color that displeases you.

However, having said that,

1) I use that font and size, because of a moderate visual problem I have. It makes it a lot easier for me to read. (I will bold this post though)

2) I have to wonder why the boards owner/moderator would offer the choices if we should not use them.

3) If my posts as written are off-putting to you, why read them?

Returned with the same respect.

Fair enough. Thanks for the reasonable response.

It is better (to me) without the color. And yes, the options would not be available if it were generally frowned on to use them.

Again, have a good train trip!

Thanks for the good wishes! I am truly looking forward to the "rail" experience.
