Service Alert: City of New Orleans, Cresent, Sunset Limited - Revised Service Due to Hurricane Katrina

Due to Hurricane Katrina, Amtrak is implementing a revised service plan for its City of New Orleans trains, which operate between Chicago and New Orleans, Crescent trains, which operate between New York and New Orleans and the Sunset Limited, which operate between Los Angeles and Orlando.

UPDATE ON TRAIN SERVICE

Southbound trains #59 (City of New Orleans) that departs Chicago on Monday August 29 and Tuesday August 30 will terminate in Memphis instead of New Orleans. No alternate transportation will be offered for passengers bound for destinations south of Memphis.

Northbound trains #58 (City of New Orleans) originally scheduled to originate in New Orleans on Monday August 29, Tuesday August 30 and Wednesday August 31 will instead originate in Memphis. No alternate transportation will be provided between New Orleans and Memphis.

Southbound trains #19 (Crescent) that departs New York on Monday August 29, Tuesday August 30 and Wednesday August 31 will terminate in Atlanta instead of New Orleans. No alternate transportation will be provided between Atlanta and New Orleans.

Northbound trains #20 (Crescent) originally scheduled to originate in New Orleans on Monday August 29, Tuesday August 30, Wednesday August 31 and Thursday September 1 will instead originate in Atlanta. No alternate transportation will be provided between New Orleans and Atlanta.

Westbound train #1 (Sunset Limited) originally scheduled to originate in Orlando will instead originate in San Antonio on Tuesday August 30. No alternate transportation will be provided between Orlando and San Antonio.

Amtrak will continue to monitor the storm and make further schedule adjustments if necessary.

This should change today nothing is going to go into NOL for a while due to the flooding and at this time they can't pump the water out of the city.
I imagine it will be weeks until #19/20 can come south. The 15 miles of track along ponchatrain are underwater.

Due to Hurricane Katrina and severe damage across the Southeast, Amtrak continues to implement a revised service plan for its City of New Orleans trains, which operate daily between Chicago and New Orleans; the Crescent trains, which operate daily New York and New Orleans; and the Sunset Limited trains, which operate three-days-weekly, between Los Angeles and Orlando, via New Orleans.

Amtrak is offering full refunds and waiving all penalties for passengers who had made reservations traveling into or out of New Orleans. Amtrak has also been calling affected passengers.

Southbound City of New Orleans train #59 that departs Chicago will terminate in Memphis instead of New Orleans on the following dates:

Thursday, September 1

Friday, September 2 and

Saturday, September 3

No alternate transportation will be provided between Memphis and New Orleans.

Northbound City of New Orleans train #58 originally scheduled to originate in New Orleans will instead originate in Memphis on the following dates:
