Well I got a peek tonight at what the Silver Service jobs are going to look like down here. There will be 5 jobs FLO-SAV, 14 jobs north (one trip to Florence, one trip to Hamlet), 6 Miami jobs, 6 Tampa jobs, and 2 relief jobs out of Jacksonville, Miami will have 6 jobs to Tampa. These are only for Conductors, there will be a few less Engineer jobs. The Miami and Tampa jobs will be the highest paying, with the job making 48 hours a week, but Miami has a higher chance for overtime. The north jobs will pay about 42 hours a week. In total about 12 people will be laid off from Jacksonville. There was a notice on the bottom of the cover sheet listing Crew Bases paying to qualify, including Miami, El Paso, and Oakland.

As far as OBS jobs go the crews will work 98 North and 91 South, or 92 North and 97 South. I'm guessing that there will be one New York based sleeper attendant on the Star, but I'm not positive on that. There will be a lot of jobs lost in Miami as well for OBS.

Actually taking into account the setup of the cycles for each OBS job, taking the total amount of jobs now verses after Nov 1, MIA only loses five OBS jobs counting extra board. JAX on the other hand is losing twenty (yes that's 20) OBS jobs counting extra board positions. Be reminded this of course is in regard to OBS employees. BTW on the Silver Service trains (Star and Meteor), all OBS jobs are staffed either out of MIA or JAX. There are never regular jobs assigned to NYC's crewbase for OBS on these two trains. Occasionally where an OBS employee becomes ill or other emergency arises, then NYC sometimes will fill a position. MIA staffs LSA's (both lounge and diner) chefs, food specialists, one waiter, the necessary train attendants needed (one in coach, and one for each Viewliner sleeping car). JAX staffs each train with an extra waiter and train attendants, and adds extra help if necessary for that trip (usually for an entire trip to NYP). JAX employees usually start their trip on a Southbound train and swing off and back on at a stop such as SBG or WTH, and then make their trip North. Once again NYC has nothing to do with the three (soon to be two) FL trains, other than T&E jobs (and OBS between WAS and NYP on the Palmetto).

Now NYC, however, is gaining control of the "Palmetto" regarding OBS jobs starting Nov 1. Currently that train is staffed with OBS personnel out of MIA and JAX as far as SAV and WAS respectivably, but after Nov 1 that changes for that particular train. Those jobs have gone to NYC's crewbase (NYP-SAV). They will consist of LSA in lounge/cafe, and two train attendants (one in coach the other in Business Class). The loss of this train is one of the main reasons for job losses in OBS as well as T&E here in the two Florida crewbases. Now as far as T&E jobs, your pretty much right on the money. JAX is losing those "Palmetto" jobs, but FLO is gaining them (FLO-SAV). In mechanical dept, JAX lost out completely which I didn't feel was a good decision on the part of managment, but I just a little OBS employee!!!

And BTW thanks for the actual info on T&E. We know where all the "seniority" is gonna go now!!!

Oh and yeah you are correct. OBS folks will work #98/#91 or #92/#97. Due to the arrival times at both ends (if these things actually can run ontime most of the time), most of the OBS "seniority" is gonna chose #98/#91. Which I know where I'll be working.......#92/#97!!!

Thanks for correcting me on the OBS guys, I always thought they were NYC boys, since I never saw them anyway. So are they completely liquidating JAX as a OBS crew base and going with a straight Miami base for the Silver Slugs? What about the whole 3 sleepers on the Star v. 2 on the Meteor? For the record, I still have no clue who you are.

Liquidating JAX as an OBS crewbase? Not that I know of, and seriously doubt it at this time. As far as the number of sleepers and/or coaches on each train, the rumor has it nowdays that both trains will continue to run with the same consists as they do now. I have reason to believe there will be adjustments made based on availabilty of equipment, peak travel times with hollidays approaching, and the mere fact first class service as well as direct ORL-TPA service returning. That is pretty much a wait and see deal, though. That usually is the way of Amtrak (at least how I see it)!

It's usually pretty slow this time of year, this is known as the Fall Lull. Management tries to get as many cars through their inspections and PM's as they can right now, since not as many seats are needed at this time of year. The equipment is still here, but it's just hitting its maintenance cycle.

Good. Theoretically then when the fall lull is over things will be in a little better state of repair. And having them available for PM on a non-emergency basis should make it easier on MJ and the others that have to do the work. And as a bonus it has started cooling off, at least here in the Orlando area, so it isn't quite such a chore to do the work (unless y'all have air-conditioned car barns down there, in which case the time of year wouldn't matter that much)....... Come to think about it, it really isn't quite as hot down in Miami as it is in Orlando in the summer anyway since we're a lot farther from the water.

The maintenance jobs were posted today and the hours really stink!!!

The PM line will stay the same with weekends off! :D

The running train jobs are 3:00am to 11:00am and a few jobs around the clock.

Alot of angry people, can't really blame them. :(

The PM jobs were not abolished, but I'm sure alot of folks with seniority will "bump" into jobs, so they can have a life. <_<

Will update tomorrow.

PS. Being Tommy's homebase, I would have thought that Sanford was a "model" facility, before the storms!!!

Come down to Hialeah and see a "blast from the past!!"
