I asked this morning if there was any upgrades available from a roomette to a big bedroom. She said yes and she would ask the conductor the price. He said around six hundred dollars. Yikes for a one way for a room that isn't being used? Yikes
Don't get on the train thinking you can get an unused room by slipping a $50.00 tip to the attendant. If he goes along with your plan, accepts the tip, and gives you the room, it's a firing offense.
Rooms are now sold at the current bucket. It doesn't matter if it's over the phone 4 months in advance, online, at the station just before the train arrives or onboard. Gone are the days of the "low bucket onboard upgrade".
Check the price for the bedroom online for a later stop to your destination. Compare that to what you already paid. If the price looks good just call and do it over the phone. The price on board is the same as shown in arrow.
