Just curious if anyone has been on all the Amtrak routes. Not end to end, just on every one at least for a few stops. Northeast regionals excluded of course...

We do have Members that have Ridden Every Route! Of the Current Routes, I'm Short Three, The Silver Meteor, The Silver Star and the DownEaster! On my Trip in May to PHL for NTD I will get to Ride on All Three, so will Have 100% of the Current Routes!!!! :D

I have ridden every Amtrak route that ever existed since the beginning except for the short lived 'Lake Country', for which I am still kicking myself.....

Aloha

At least I have riden 2 that are gone, the Broadway Limited and Desert Wind. Traveler and I just might ride the CONO together. The year before Katrina I was booked on the CONO but the convention in NOL I was heading to got canceled while I was in route because of fear of a hurricane, that hit a year later.

GG-1: I remember that storm (though I forget the name). I was actually in NOL about a week before Katrina, but that was about four months before I "discovered" the train, sadly.

I have ridden all the current Amtrak routes plus almost every route Amtrak has operated through the almost 41 years. I didn't ride the temporary reroute of the Floridian from Chicago through Evansville to Nashville in early 1975, but I had ridden the pre Amtrak Georgian and Dixie Flyer on the same former C&EI - L&N route.

i have ridden more or less everything in the timetable today except the Pere Marquette and the Heartland. Not always the same train names but certainly the same routs.

Of course I have ridden many preAmtrak routes and names long gone.

I've been on every long distance route end to end, and most of the corridor trains. I'm still missing Galesburg to Quincy, Essex Jct. to St. Albans, Richmond to Newport News, Pere Marquette, and the Blue Water. Oh and Dearborne to Pontiac.

The schedules of those trains makes it hard to ride without having to spend the night in Grand Rapids or Port Huron. I suppose Quincy would be possible for a same day turn.

Also forgot to add that I have not done the Stockton to Sacramento line. I tried the other day coming up from Bakersfield, but I couldn't get the schedule to work out. I did, however, ride the Thruway Bus from SKN to SAC.

I'm working on doing all the LD ones end to end but I've a ways to go yet. This summer I'm doing the EB (SEA-CHI) and the CZ (CHI-EMY) which I am really looking forward to. But I've already been on the Coast Starlight, Southwest Chief, Capitol Limited and Cardinal all end to end, plus the Silver Meteor (only DC-Charlston), Palmetto, Carolinian, Crescent, the regional at various times all up between Lynchburg and NYP ,the Woverine, Blue Water and the Pacific Surfliner (San Diego - Santa Barbara) so I'm feeling pretty accomplished so far given that I live in Australia :)

:hi: WOW  , those Aussies really Know How to Travel!! We complain when there isnt an Amtrak Station in our Front Yard and they have to Travel 8,000 miles across the Pacific!

Similar to another one of our Members from England (Hi Ed! :hi: ) currently Touring the Colonies on another of his Global Troting Trips!

I read in Amtrak: An American Story that when Paul Reistrup became president of Amtrak, he set out to ride every mile on the Amtrak system. And he didn't have to buy a ticket!

I seem to remember a person who posted here a year or two ago, who was planning to not only ride every Amtrak train, but ride them in numerical order, first the Sunset Limited (trains 1 and 2) then the Southwest Chief (trains 3 and 4), and so on. Is he or she still active?

Thanks :D I just love trains. My parents took me on the Indian Pacific across Australia when I was 3, I guess it got me started (though I don't remember much :) ). I love how much of the country I've seen and how many people I've met through travelling around the US on the train. And a decade or so ago, I didn't even know you guys had long distance trains!

Everything except the Lake Country. I have been on the Southwest Chief 12 times this year alone, and set out again on Monday. Plus long gone trains like the Phoebe Snow, Tennesseean, Choctaw Rockette, Golden State, SF Chief, City of Los Angeles, and many more.

I think John Corbett has been on all Amtrak routes, end to end.
Cool for mentioning me. And you are right. That will change briefly when the Norfolk extension opens, and then change back when I ride the Norfolk extension.

add- referring to current routes only, some routes like Pioneer, Desert Wind, were canceled before I could get out there.

I've done all of the long distance (overnight) trains on the system... EXCEPT the Auto Train... which I shall conquer July 23-25, 2012 here.

I have done all of the short haul routes too except some in the Northeast and the Heartland Flyer.

As of last June I've done 100% of the current network.

Here's a tip for all you potential aces. Don't forget the SKT-SAC segment. I realized I did, and it was several years before I could get back to California and ride it. It's only served by two (in each direction) San Joaquins a day.

I've ridden every long distance train. In addition, the Downeaster, the train from Chicago to Detroit(forgot the name),The Pacific Surfliner, The Hiawatha, The Cascades, NE Regional trains(too many to remember) Keystone Service, The Adirondack, the Vermonter, The Maple Leaf and the now defunct Desert Wind. Never got on the Pioneer and I'm missing a few short run Midwest trains, along with the Auto Train.

I've been riding Amtrak since 1990 and I've done the four cross country routes, the Starlight and the Silver Service trains multiple times.

Interesting thread.

When did the Broadway Limited and Desert Wind end service?

Also, does anyone remember the trains which had huge women's lounges? Did the Broadway Limited have one of those?

Thanks for any info.

The Broadway Limited was discontinued in September of 1995. It was replaced by the Three Rivers, which ran until March of 2005. And the Desert Wind ceased operations in May of 1997.
