My roomette from Chicago - Seattle is number 7 I believe that will be quite a ways from the bathrooms and the area to go down to the showers and additional bathrooms, is that correct? Back in the "day" I wouldn't think about -- but may need to get up in the middle of the night :)

Am I correct in my locations?

Also, maybe not a question - but never had to get up after I was settled in for the night, however do people walk in their pj's down the aisle or robe & slippers, slacks, or what. It's been many years since we've had a sleeper and never considered those things at the time I travelled. thanks
 
Roomette #7 is the third from the end of the sleeping car. There is 1 restroom upstairs (in the center of the car) and 3 additional restrooms and the shower on the lower level. The choice is yours, but it would recommend wearing shoes/slippers. Remember that at 3 am, there will probably be no one else in the hallway.

Most people just walk in their pajamas. I wear a robe if I'm in something like a tank top and shorts or a nightshirt.

I always wear slippers with rubber soles. No way would I walk into the bathroom in just socks or bare feet.
 
Since others coveredvthe location of the room and facilities I'll suggest that comfortable clothing like t-shirts and shorts or sweat paints would be appropriate for night wear! For footwear @ night, flip flops, slippers or all terrain sandals such as Nike,Redbook etc sell is perfect!

Depending on the temp inside the train (it can range from HOT to Cold) you can either put on a sweater, light jacket, long sleeve T-shirt or shorts and T-shirt! Please don't wear night clothes or slippers to the Diner or Lounge, the crew will send you to dress and wear proper footwear!

Thanks, I'm scheduled for roomette 3 when coming back - which I think will be better. Will pack accordingly now.
 
And be advised that roomette 1 on the superliners is reserved for the sleeping car attendant.

I personally consider roomette 2 to be the best of the best in these cars.
 
Also, in case you hadn't heard... the Chicago-Seattle train hasn't been running on time lately. If you have a trip on the Empire Builder scheduled for the next few months, please be sure to read all about it on the many Empire Builder threads here.

And for reference, the EB "hasn't been running on time" to the same degree that Justin Bieber "hasn't been behaving responsibly."
 
Looking at the diagrams reminded me of somthing I've been curious about for a long time, but lnever thought to ask: What is the area behind the walls of the Family Bedroom and the Handicap Bedroom used for?
 
Yes, have read much to my dismay the "late" for Seattle to Chicago - so am prepared -- I guess. Should be interesting. Some years back I waited in Denver for my train nearly 5 hours for the CZ.. They never did say why it was late; or any idea "how" late it might be.

Equipment (batteries, HVAC, etc) and the wheels.

Isn't there also a storage area for skis, etc?
 
Those ends are largely over the trucks, so there's not a whole lot of space there. One end (the end under the bedrooms & nearest to the showers & the handicapped room) is the "wet end" - a water tank is filled near there at several stops, & I assume that the sewage tank is at that end as well. The opposite end is the HVAC, as you can tell by the noise, vented panels, and such.

I've never done a direct test, but I've often wondered whether the roomette end of the train has better HVAC than the bedroom end, since the roomettes are closer to the blowers.
 
The CZ WB stop in Denver has been up to 3 hours late often in the past few weeks. I use the text msg status to check here and there just out of curiosity for now. Trip isn't until August for us.
 
When we were on the CS in December 2012, I asked our sleeper attendant the same question. I wasn't sure what was appropriate for traipsing to the bathroom during the night. She said she didn't care what I wore...even if I was naked....as long as I wore shoes. Our care attendant was Cynthia....she was great!
 
If you are dressed in PJ's and go to the bathroom wearing slippers you will be fine. Once I was on the Autotrain and got up early in the morning to get coffee. A very shapely young lady leaves her roomette for the bathroom only wearing tiny "baby doll" Pajamas. I guess everyone has their own definition of modesty but if you saw this girl it would be impossible if male testosterone levels could be held in check.
