    Texas Eagle

Want advice? Don't. Spend the extra bucks and splurge on sleeping compartments if you have the means. I've traveled this train and while having to endure walking through the coaches, I can tell you it was not a pretty sight. This train seems to get a lot of religious camp, boy scout, and...

NYP to CHI & Return - Lake Shore & Three Rivers

Here is my most recent trip report. NYP to CHI - Thursday, Feb. 12th Left NYP 20 minutes down. Bedroom 2 in Viewliner 62016 Lake View. I was lucky since my bedroom faced the Hudson. Although I've taken this trip many times, the scenery along this route never gets boring. Arrived Albany...

    Leaving today LSL & 3R

Finally, thought this day was never going to get here. Heading to Chicago for vacation for a few days. I'm leaving on the LSL from NYP this afternoon. Although I'm always weary of this train and it's crews, I'm hoping it will be a pleasant trip. I'm returning on the Three Rivers, leaving CHI...

Got my Amfleet IIs and Viewliner all Decaled

If you can stand the wait, Bachmann will be coming out with their Amfleet I's in the Acela "Lava Lamp" scheme later this fall. I'm not sure if the cars will also be better detailed, trucks, etc.

Amtrak Consist Changes and Service Cuts

I'll be on #49 from NYP to CHI this coming Thursday. I'm a smoker, so the change of lounge cars is good news to me. I was worried that I would loose my sleeping car but it seems that is not going to happen. Hopefully.. I'll post a trip report with consist #'s when I get back.

    Corridor Clipper alert

Tried to find the old thread on the Corridor Clipper instead of creating a new one. In any event, for those of you near the NEC, the Corridor Clipper just pulled into Newark, NJ at 11:00AM. Not sure of which train (Metroliner or Regional) it was attached to.

    Cardinal

From what I understand the Cardinal lost it's Dining Car also. So, this train is basically a Three Rivers minus a sleeper. Kind of discouraging for any potential passengers wanting a sleeper and full meal service.

question about the Amfleet 1 dinettes

I'll have to pick that issue up. Thanks for the heads up. I now have a digital camera so I'll make sure to get some interior pics on the 3R and LSL next week.

question about the Amfleet 1 dinettes

Actually, when I rode this train this was not the case. Coach passengers were eating full service dinners at the same time I was. From what I remember, the coach passengers had the same meal, except paid on the spot. No proof, like first hand experience. I'll be taking this train on March...

question about the Amfleet 1 dinettes

It depends on where you are traveling or the length of your trip. Conductors on this train tend to put those who will be traveling the longest in the Amfleet II coach. I get to see this train everyday and it's consist does vary from time to time. I have seen it with two Amfleet II coaches and...

    First Time on Train

First trip on a train in general was when I was around 4 or 5 years old on the Strasburg Railroad. First Amtrak trip was in college back in 1995, took one of the Empire Service Trains (Back then they still had names. If I remember correctly, it was either the Mohawk or Niagara Rainbow) from...

    Pioneer and Desert Wind

Look at it this way. If Amtrak changed it's name to "Iraqitrak" or "Marstrak", I'm sure the government would give them the full amount they request every year. And then, you could bring back the Pioneer and Desert Wind to name a few. I think it's kind of ridiculous that the government will...

    Food Service on Clockers?

So you're saying these cars could be deadhead cars in the consist? That sounds logical. However, the Amfleet II coaches and Food Service Car were in towards the middle of the consist. And, the consist was it's usual length. I'll have to bring my digital cam to work and get some pictures...

Man hit by train on platform

The sad part of this story is that if this guy decides to sue METRA and whomever else, he may win. Jury's have made some moronic decisions in regard to litigation such as this. He was walking in the Hazardous area in front of the yellow line, etc. But I'm sure the lawyers will find some way...
