No more charters & special moves: 3/28/18 Memo fr Anderson

Baloney! Twice in the past month 50 was delayed out of Huntington for 25 and 30 minutes respectively for coupling up CPH's private varnish. Last year I missed a connection in Chicago due to a two hour delay on the CZ in Denver hooking up PV. PV connections can and DO cause delays.

    Cardinal, Zephyr, Starlight trip

I had a similar experience this past summer when the Cardinal "bus-tituted" from CIN to CHI. This bus was the worst they could find. Every time the driver would open his window it would draw fumes from the restroom thru the bus, gagging nearly every passenger. I thought the driver was...

Rental Cars at Flagstaff, AZ station

There's a Hertz counter at the Amtrak station. If given 24 hour notice, and assuming the SWC doesn't run terribly late, an agent will be there to assist you.

    International ID Check

From Amtrak's web site...."We strongly recommend that US and Canadian citizens carry a passport. Passengers without a passport, must have a certified copy of a birth certificate and current, valid government-issued photo identification."

    Weekly specials in the north-east

When does this take effect? Current weekly specials are 70% off on dozens of trains for travel thru the end of February.

#98 in the woods for 20 hours

I've been watching all the TV newscasts on the 98's delay and I'm puzzled by the attitude of passengers interviewed by phone that Amtrak should have provided alternate transportation because of this derailment. Can anyone tell me the last time you saw an airline provide alternate transportation...

    Cardinal Sleepers and meals

Eastbound Cardinal from CHI to MAY in January is all night travel, no daylight and no meals. Westbound, you'll see daylight from Indianapolis to CHI and breakfast to boot. Maysville is a small town of 9000 located on the Ohio River. Home to the late Rosemary Clooney!

Turn Amtrak back to the freight railroads?

Great plan....now if one or more of the freight railroads steps up to the plate and presents their proposal to Congress to take over Amtrak then we can start discussions on how to pass ownership. But wait, I hear nothing but silence from the CSX/BNSF/UP/NS group. Why? THEY DON'T WANT TO...

    Microwave in Lounge?

Plan on the cold things. Health regulations prohibit your use of the microwave.

Loyal Amtrak saviors are it's worst enemies

[With the upcoming demise of Amtrak's "Three Rivers" that serves Youngstown, Akron and Fostoria, Ohio becomes even more of a donor state: getting less and less return on every dollar our taxpayers send to support Amtrak's budget.] You're getting quite the bargain now. Under the Bush reform act...

Will the cardinal become daily with 3R/Palm cuts?

For those of us who frequent the Cardinal, keep the lounges and sleepers, give us our diner back!

    Amtrak Windows

My E-Trex Legend worked fine on Viewliner and Superliner bedrooms from WV to CA this summer as long as it was placed near a window. It would lose signal from time to time due to heavy overhead foliage but it was little more than a nuisance. Never lost signal in Sightseer Lounge.
