Washington Union Station, is there a lounge?

The Acela Lounge is also used for First Class/Sleeper passengers. I use it on a regular basis when traveling the Silvers and Cap Limited.

Buying tickets? (e-ticket v. Quik Trak)

I bring both, just in case. Then again, I am a little paranoid. -Sav

Taking 97 NYC to ft lauderdale

Gingee There is no room for larger bags in the sleeper, you will need to check them. The space above the door won't fit much more than a duffel bag or standard airline roll-aboard. And yes, there is a toilet in your roomette. -Sav

Anyone familiar with area around train in Ft. Lauderdale

We always stay pre-cruise at the Embassy Suites on 17th. You will have to cab it from Amtrak, but they do offer a shuttle to the cruise and if you are up early enough, you can watch the ships arrive in port from your room.

    Taxis King Street station

If you aren't up for spending the $40 on the cab, exit king street station and walk one block east on Jackson to 5th and catch the light rail to the Airport station. Most airport hotels will offer a free shuttle from the station. It is about a 31 minute ride and costs $2.75. -Sav

    WAS-ABQ How many zones?

I wish I could do the Card again, but I think my wife might kill me! She is not the lover of train travel that I am, and we did that route to Chicago last year. Looks like the Cap Ltd. to the Chief for us!

    WAS-ABQ How many zones?

I've looked at the AGR zone map, and I am embarrassed to say that I can't figure out if this is two zones or three. From the looks of it, ABQ is "on the border" to me, so that would make it two, right? Thanks! Sav

Holiday Trip on the Silvers WAS-ORL-TPA-WAS (97/92)

Okay, here goes my first Trip Report ever. The Wife and I departed WAS on 97, 20 December for a family visit in Florida over the holidays. Took the MARC Penn Line from Bowie State down to Union Station, for what was supposed to be an on-time departure from WAS. We board from the lounge and are...

Move Amtrak from Elyria to Loraine?

Looking at the proposed station on Bing, looks like they'd need to add back in a track to come up to the station and a platform, without needing an extended walk out to the main line. Don't know how much that costs vice upgrading the other location, but depending on how much the ADA upgrades...

Move Amtrak from Elyria to Loraine?

It makes a lot of sense, actually. Why put good money after bad—the proposed ADA upgrades at Elyria—when those funds could be redirected to a location where better amenties and connections to other transit methods exist? How much difference will it really make to most people? Not much, probably...

Sleeping in the sightseer lounge or cafe

Unless a conductor tells you otherwise, it is allowed. I slept in the Sightseer on the Cap Limited once and was never told to move. -Sav

    Crescent OTP

A few answers for you from a veteran 280 rider 1) The Business Class car on 280 is a half business/half lounge with 2/1 leather seating. It's nice, trust me. 2) No seats on Empire service are pre-assigned. 3) The attendant will help you, or there is some floor space towards the rear of the...
