    Amtrak Series

It could easily be the SEPTA series too.

    The AEM7 replacement

Don't Viewliners also contribute to the speed restriction? They don't look very aerodynamic.

    Amtrak Series

I thought the teams would be bussed between cities. A special World Series train would definitely catch the public's attention though.

    Amtrak changes website look

I think they removed the publications page that allowed you to order a free system timetable.

    New Amtrak Ink employee newsletter

Another thin timetable huh? Are the Empire and Keystone services included in the timetable this time?

Teenager Hit by Train in MD

The articles seem to indicate this happened in a residential neighborhood that straddles the tracks. The boys were probably playing in the Elk Neck State Forest on the other side. This is a case of parental negligence. Living that close to the tracks and probably seeing trains flying through...

    Support for expanded Electrification?

Well as I said, I read this a few years ago. I forget the source.

    Support for expanded Electrification?

Wasn't the New Haven-Boston project mostly an electrification project? If electrification cost $5 million per mile, then how much would it have been if track were laid too?

    Support for expanded Electrification?

You do have a point there. I still think that finding a way to cut the cost will give HSR a better chance of success though. If catenary is a must, then maybe its power source can be changed. I was thinking solar energy could be an option for power in some areas, but I'm not an expert there and...

    Support for expanded Electrification?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the very definition of HSR are trains that can travel at 150 or higher. It at least has to be 150 or it doesn't count.

    Support for expanded Electrification?

Well I what I was getting at by saying a European or Japanese system wouldn't work here is mainly the financing part of it. I think we can must get high speed rail that can achieve speeds in excess of 150 or 200 MPH. If we can get the cost down in infrastructure a bit though it would help...

    Support for expanded Electrification?

The main problem with electrification is the fact that passenger rail is a money loser. Looking back to pre-Amtrak days, freight profit would make up for passenger losses, so railroads could improve their passenger services as they wished. Today electrifying lines probably wouldn't work in this...

    Amtrak + Olympics

I wonder what Amtrak's going to do next year when the Olympics hit Vancouver. Probably not much, but Seattle might see more tourism during the Olympics than usual due to its close proximity to Vancouver. I wouldn't use Atlanta as a gauge to determine if Amtrak will add service to Chicago in...

Is there a difference between the two Silvers?

The Meteor is a faster trip for those traveling south of Orlando. The Star leaves earlier and reaches Florida about 2-3 hours before the Meteor, however because the Star goes to Tampa and stops at Lakeland twice, by the time it gets to South Florida the two trains are often on each other's tails...

    Inaugural Festivities in Lynchburg!

Great pictures and video. I favorited the youtube video and rated it 5 stars. Did the train accept passengers to Washington? If not, when are they? I heard it was supposed to start October 1st on the dot. The strange thing is Amtrak released a new Northeast Corridor 2 timetable (the Boston to...

    Disney Christmas Carol Train Routing

Well I live in St. Augustine, FL and was considering driving up to Jacksonville to see this train when it stops here on October. I looked at the schedule this evening and noticed something interesting. It's going directly from Savannah to Miami and then back up to Jacksonville. Also it's not...

Stepped-up security in Philadelphia (and the rest of the Northeast)

A year and a half ago TSA (yes TSA, not Amtrak or local police) invaded Jacksonville's tiny little station and treated it like an airport. I still wonder why. It was a random April morning. They do this sometimes, although in the Northeast it probably wasn't that bad since it was probably just...

    Pizza Delivery to Train

A better station to do this would be Jacksonville, but I doubt you would want pizza in the morning, so I would do it on the return trip. They sit in Jacksonville for 20 minutes not only to change crews, but to refuel. It gives you plenty of time, but Jacksonville station isn't exactly in the...

    WMATA Red Line Collision

Does the Metro have dispatchers, or someone in a command center controling the switches and signals, or is that automated too?

NJT Bi-Level set seen on the New Haven Line

That's interesting. I've heard about the meadowlands train before, although it thought they killed the proposal for some reason. Would this train be run by MNRR northeast of NYP or by NJT the whole way? (I guess this topic isn't Amtrak related like I thought so feel free to move it.)
