    Bonuses when using upgrade coupons

I'm thinking of using an upgrade coupon on 4/15 for Acela train 2205 (which is currently $330 for FC). Here's some questions: 1) does anyone think that there will be FC seats left by 4/14? 2) Do you get the 50% bonus with a coupon or is it just the upgrade? Sent from my Moto Z2 Play using...

Back to the Buckets: Amtrak's bizarre pricing

For several Saturdays this year, the one way between Schenectady and New York on 68 (SB Adirondack) is $62 while on 69 (NB Adirondack) it is $44. Why is it more expensive in one direction than another? I've noticed this in the past as well.....

Amtrak 153 sold-out NYP to PHL on 4/14

Guys, As some of you might know, I'm involved with RPA (NARP) and I was going to make a day trip to PHL on April 14th for the RPA/NARP event at Temple University. The train I was going to take, train 153 (152 as well) has been "sold out" and my only option is either shelling out $80 (one way)...

Clever solution to ConnDOT's equipment woes in RE: Hartford Line

The Hartford Line is about a year or two from opening, and what I'm baffled with is how ConnDOT is taking their sweet time with figuring out EXACTLY (key word) how the service will be run from an equipment standpoint, or even if the existing M8 fleet will be qualified and ready for operation on...

HSR: The Equipment and Funding Debacle

From Railway Gazette: The only way I can see this resolved (and Amtrak and California High Speed Rail Authority will run into this problem when they start receiving proposals for their RFPs) is if the feds relax the rules on Build America for a period of ten years to allow both overseas...

    Laundry list of Amtrak fixes

As some of you might know, I am a member of NARP (and a council rep) and I came up with some agenda Items for the 2015 Spring Council of Representatives meeting back in April, and my ideas got mixed reviews. My original commnents are in italics, with my updated notes non-italicized. State of...

    Converting the AEM-7's to cabbages

For the last couple of weeks I've been looking over plans that I've gone over in my head for improving Amtrak service across the country taking current equipment limitations into account. The pros: 1) Decreases costs associated with labor (turning a train takes a bit of time). 2) Checked...

Squeezing extra life out of the Acelas

Would it be possible to get another few years out of the Acela cars for NEC equipment expansion by rearranging some of the Acela fleet once the Acela IIs are online? That's my argument, since it's going to be a few years until we see a next generation of Amfleets. And I'd say the new Amfleets be...

    Amtrak and Bombardier

I've read on Railroad.net that Amtrak will never, ever buy from Bombardier again. How true is that? I know management in the past has steered away from them, but is it company policy, like is Bombardier prohibited from permanently bidding on anything Amtrak is contracting for? The Acelas, yeah...
