Somewhere in the archives I would suppose that these questions have been asked and answered.
But who has time to Google infinity ?

With all the weather delays and short staffing - interesting -
What are the duty times for the Train crew and Engineer (perhaps different contracts ?)
Any compensation i.e. Overtime - Comp Time Off in lieu ?
No doubt seniority plays a part in bidding scheduling lucrative routes ?
More than one crew on a train - dormered in the "T" Sleeper car ?

Seaboard92 are you up to wiki-paedia this ?

Operating crews do NOT sleep on the train. They work between a home terminal and an away terminal and back. For example, on the Empire Builder, Seattle based engineers run from Seattle (home) to Wenatchee (away), lay over overnight, then back. Conductors work to Spokane. Union agreements specify that runs under 6 scheduled hours can have only one engineer, over that two engineers are required in the cab, so engineer crew districts are not always the same as conductor crew districts, such as Seattle-Wenatchee versus Seattle-Spokane.

Operating crews are limited to 12 hours maximum on duty by Federal HOS regulations.

Only OBS crew sleeps onboard, never T&E crew. OBS crew are not HOS regulated.
