Quick question and CZ travel update.

Ok, well, im taking the California Zephyr to Chicago this friday in the morning and coming back sunday afternoon for a quick weekend trip to chicago. I have looked at the CZ ontime status over the past few weeks and basically im hoping to leave lincoln by 7:30 and get to chicago by 6. However the train has been 4 hours + late even after denver and making up time; so this is a bit optimistic, but i can be optimistic lol.

My dad would like to know if there is 110v outlets anywhere outside of the sleepers on the train (we are going by coach as we are traveling during the day and dont need a bed).

I've only seen a couple of Superliner coaches with outlets at each seat.

Otherwise, look for seats 19 and 55 (on the same side of the aisle as the stairs, one at each end of the car), as there is usually an outlet hidden by the wall around there.

Otherwise, the upstairs bar area in the sightseer lounge usually has a plug. Just be careful not to trip people with your cord.

Concerning outlets, they are designed for the cleaning crew and may be patially blocked by the seats. I recommend a flat plug extension cord if you can find one.

I have never tried it but I just wonder if you buy a regular extension cord and replace the plug with one of the flat ones would you have better access to the outlets. Any opinions?

It's good to be optimistic, but the CZ has only made it to Chicago by 6pm twice since Jul 16. It got there at 6:00pm on Jul 27 and at 5:44pm on Aug 8. It's worst performance in this time frame was on Aug 1, when it was over 12hrs late. The train you'll be taking should have left Emeryville this morning at 9:15am, but for last 2 days Amtrak website says "Information Unavailable:...due to a service disruption". Hopefully everything will be OK. I'm taking the CZ next week to Chicago and the Capitol Limited to Ohio. I've been tracking the CZ performance to see what my chances were to make the 2:15 hour connection between the CZ arriving and the Limited leaving Chicago...I have a zero chance. I will accept the trains performance and go with the flow. I planned a layover for the night in Chicago, and will catch the Limited the following day. My wife and I have never been to Chicago, and am excited about little stopover. It looks like there is a lot to see and do there. Below is a portion of my tracking sheet. While it is never easy to format colums, since browser tend to autospace things, you might want to try using the code feature. When you're in the typing box, it's the button with the "#" on it. If you want to try reformatting your post above, simply add [ code ] at the start of the table and [ /code ] at the end of the table. Then realign the columns once more.

Note: I had to put spaces around the word "code" above to prevent the board from thinking that I wanted to post code. You must type the line with no space after the [ or one before the closing ] It should just be one continuous string from opening bracket to closing bracket with no spaces.

Possibly good news today

As of 1021 between SLC and Denver the CZ was running 5 hours late but it est to arrive in lincoln at 6:21, 2 hours and 4 mins late and to get to chicago at 420, 1 hour late. Do you think this will hold??

The CZ has been detouring SLC-DEN for a few weeks due to UP trackwork - supposedly it will be over by August 15th.

As I have said in the Past "We all shall Wait and see" But The good news is the detour SHOULD be faster but with UP you never know.
