Hi all,

packing for my trip.

I have roomettes booked for all travel except my return home. Since I am going on a cruise, my suitcase is full.

My return trip is NOL-DEN, the CONO and CZ. Am I right in thinking they should have enough blankets to purchase?

Thanks!

They should, but plan to obtain it early from NOL. Maybe shortly after the caféopens leaving NOL. Also remember that they can be kept and used on future trips. You now have to purchase them in coach, you are no longer given a pillow.

Since you are riding Coach from NOL-CHI and CHI-DEN I'd recommend you get a travel pillow ( small and they fold up)and a cheap fleece blanket somewhere like Wal- Mart for your trip! If nothing else they'll fit in a carry all/snack bag ( dont forget food and drink)or you could even hook/tie the blanket/throw on the top of your bag if space is @ a premium!

Suggest you cut down on your clothing and " stuff" if space is critical in your bags, the blanket and pillow are essential for your comfort!

You can't count on Amtrak having the comfort kits in stock in the cafe and your return is a looooong way ( 2 Days and Nights) to be without a blanket or pillow!

I will find room for a blankie(had room for the pillow), it would be a long two nights without one.

Thanks again everyone!

You may already know this trick, but just in case you don't. Use large zip plastic bags for your clothes and blanket, and even your pillow if it's not an inflatable one.

Put your items in the bags and squeeze out the air (I usually sit on it) as you zip it up. Makes for much more room in your luggage.

I know you didn't ask for advice, but, I'm giving it anyways.

If I could, I would would re-book the roomette for the return trip.

I love to cruise out of New Orleans. I don't think that I would like to return home from a relaxing cruise in coach.

I would take coach down, enjoy the cruise, then continue the good vibe with an Amtrak land cruise, in comfort, home.

Also if you are not flying you can take an extra bag with no penalty on Amtrak.

Enjoy your cruise.

I can always learn from advice. I know what you are saying and usually I think that way. But for some reason not this trip.

Thanks!

I agree with Tin Man. A few years ago I had a roomette from Chicago to Seattle, took a cruise and then was in a coach going back from Seattle to Chicago. If I had it to do over again, I'd definitely want to continue the comfort going back home. For me, it was probably my most uncomfortable Amtrak experience.
