I don't know about flooding or such on the SWC route, but I do know on the CZ route, there was major flooding and washouts in Colorado. I don't know if the CZ is detouring thru Wyoming and Nebraska, or if the tracks were (or will be) repaired, but expect delays on the CZ - if indeed it. Is even operating!

From the Amtrak.com page:

Schedule Change and Detour to California Zephyr Train 5 and 6

Effective Until Further NoticeDue to heavy rains and flooding, Union Pacific Railroad will be closing the route used daily by the California Zephyr for repairs west of Denver through early October. As a result, Amtrak will use an alternate route between Denver and Salt Lake City.

Chicago - Denver and Salt Lake City - San Francisco BayPassengers traveling between Chicago and Denver or between Salt Lake City and the San Francisco Bay will not be affected by the detour.

Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Green River, Helper and ProvoPassengers traveling to or from Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Green River, Helper and Provo will be provided alternate bus service.

Fraser-Winter Park and GranbyAlternate bus service will not be provided to or from Fraser-Winter Park and Granby.

As with all transportation modes, passengers should check for delays before heading to their boarding locations. The most up-to-date Amtrak arrival and departure times are available on Amtrak.com, our free mobile apps and at 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245).

Thank you for traveling with Amtrak. We appreciate your patronage and apologize for any inconvenience.

Things should be fixed up before your trip.

If not, you get some semi-rare detour mileage. The train actually gets over the detour a little faster, so there shouldn't be a schedule impact.

And the local newspaper in Glenwood Springs, CO quotes a Union Pacific RR representative (the folks actually fixing the washed-out tracks in Colorado) that they expect the east-west route through Colorado to be restored to operation by early October. So a trip on the CZ after October 19 will most likely go via the "normal" route between Salt Lake City and Denver through Colorado, instead of Wyoming.
