MIA- CHI help using air and rail [if needed]

I don't sound off on this forum too much, but this topic caused an immediate reaction from me, based on some of the crazy trips I've tried to plan. My first question, based on friends reacting to my itineraries, would be "What! Are you nuts?" but I would digress doing so, so.... First thing I...

Palmetto 89 Incident in Chester, Pa. (4/3/16)

I would think the forward facing video camera in the cab will have much to tell about how this happened, and possibly give clues as to why.

Transporting furniture inside a sleeper: experiences? rules?

Did you say cross-country? That probably means a change of trains. It would be much easier to talk you out of this, or possibly help you, it it's known from where, to where. Amtrak probably will consider this a no chance, and I doubt any insurance would cover the items shipped the way you suggest.

    Did You Vote?

Wouldn't this "trough" include a majority of the pro-rail forum members? http://www.cahsrblog.com/2013/05/millennials-are-driving-less-and-will-continue-to-do-so-as-they-age/

    Getting Off Early -- Considerations?

I've disembarked early from the Silvers early many times without a problem, and have always let someone from the train know my intentions ahead of time. I think in this case you would especially want to let them know ahead of time, so there's no confusion in case the In-laws don't show.

    91 delayed (5/13)

My belated thanks to Peaches for posting. Since I was booked for a points run on #91 from SAV to DFB, I'd looked but had trouble finding any news on the pedestrian accident. Thanks as well to Guest_peaches for offering what might explain the lack of any follow-up info. Up to the time of the...

    Savannah or Jacksonville?

Let's talk about stations, relatively speaking, in the middle of nowhere! If Jacksonville ever moves Amtrak back to their old Union Station, now the Prime Osborne convention center, it might be able to give Savannah a run for the money. Until then, the best experience close to the station is a...

    Bypassed college towns

The Shenandoan stops along the old B&O line included Athens, which is the main Ohio U. campus. (Go Bobcats!) CSX pulled the tracks from Athens up to Belpre, OH, from where it would cross the Ohio River to Parkersburg, WV, in 1991. The OU administration didn't mind at all, since it meant coal...

    Southeast Vacation: Savannah

Since you'll be packing light, you should be able to snag a cab immediately from SAV Amtrak to your accommodations. Upon arrival of the Palmetto to the platform, look to the immediate right-hand side of the station. That's where you'll always find a few to several taxis awaiting fares. As long...

    Amtrak stations mapped by ridership

Can someone explain to me why there are two different blue dots in Central Ohio on this map. There are no Amtrak sanctioned Thruway bus stops or stations in this area. Edit...Already answered by the previous post, since Columbus and Zanesville are both from the list of GPS coordinates! :hi:

    Station Pictures

I found it a bit ironic to find this travel article in today's Columbus Dispatch. The mainstay paper from the capitol city of Ohio, whose Governor rejected funds to establish an Amtrak corridor route connecting their most populated urban areas, plus having just a single arch remaining from its...

    Name That Station!

I think this is becoming just that sort of thread, although some have bent the initial rules set out. I thought TCRT would have to either post the next pick, or pass the privilege on to the next player. This makes me want to go through all of my old photos, though, and be ready to play along!

    Savannah Parking

I have never had a problem, plus have never heard of anyone else having one leaving an auto parked there. If I were you, I'd be more worried about being able to find the station in the first place! For such an attractive city as Savannah, it is a shame this is so out in the middle of nowhere!
