    Select Quest 2007

I did it! With steely determination and great patience, I completed 50 train trips in 7 weeks, qualifying me for Select status. I thought of the idea after I was offered triple bonus points for trips taken from May something through July 31. Starting in the 2nd week of June, I took train trips...

    Cascade's OOS

Very interesting. I have been riding the Cascades a lot over the past few weeks. I didn't hear of anything until now, but I will see if I can find out since I am in the area of concern.

    Acela Questions

Thank you Alan for the detailed and informative reply. Your assistance is greatly appreciated! I thought of another question I should have asked before. What are the tipping expectations on the Acela Express? Thank you again!

    Acela Questions

I have the good fortune of having enough AGR points to provide my eldest son with 2 Acela Express First Class trips on his upcoming tour of prospective Northeast law schools. I have made the reservations, but have a couple of questions: ClubAcela access is granted with a same-day First Class...

Any advice for where to sleep near King St. Station in Seattle, PLEASE

Check out the Silver Cloud Hotel Stadium. It is certainly not cheap, but is a very nice hotel with a great free breakfast. Me and my family stayed there a couple months ago, and it is within walking distance of the train station.

    Overloaded Empire Builder

I rode the Empire Builder from Portland to Vancouver today, and the conductor told 2 passengers sitting near me that they could spread out for now but would have to move to their assigned seats soon since "the train seats 75 and we have reservations for 80." "Where will they sit?" inquired the...

    Computer Geek and Train Geek

Wow, now that is impressive! Only 3 desktops in my house, and my 2 sons' laptops when they are here and not away at college or working. We all run XP on a wireless broadband network and only tinker occasionally with linux. My kids are quite skilled with the HTML, but I just haven't tried it yet...

    Cascades Seats - Upgrades? Configurations?

Thank you, how stupid of me! I should have realized it was a handicapped accessible car. Yes, the legroom was definitely coach class, though I sat in a seat at the end of the car that offered even more legroom than I could use... probably the seat I would vacate if a wheelchair came aboard. I...

    Cascades Seats - Upgrades? Configurations?

I hopped on the Cascades 507 in Portland a couple days ago and saw a few very nice looking tan leather seats in the coach car I was passing through to get to my assigned car. I am 100% certain it was a coach car. Are the Cascades seats being gradually upgraded as they need replacing? Does anyone...

    Portland, OR parking

Interesting question, since I have been evaluating the same for my Cascades trips. There is no free parking that I know of on the South side of the Willamette River (where Union Station is located). There are many areas where free parking is available on the North side of the river. It is a good...
