    Train Games (non-computer)?

Hey, so Rail Baron is getting a reprint! Rio Grande is putting it out under its original title, Boxcars. I didn't get to play it at GenCon, but the board looks lovely-- AND it's double-sided, with a Britain map & companies included.

Inside the new St. Paul Union Depot

Union Depot's facebook page has been well-tended. It seems CP isn't in a huge hurry to build the connecting track.

3rd Times a Charm with Chase

I don't recall getting my card particularly late, but I, too, had trouble getting approved initially. I got denied for not having enough active credit (despite having very good credit). I had to call them and explain the error of their ways -- plus gave them the business for treating an existing...

    metropolitan lounge chicago

Pretty sure this was addressed even if you didn't ask, but I can see where it might have been lost in the shuffle. Yes, you can temporarily check carryons at CUS's Met Lounge. It's one of the few, if not the only, Met Lounge with this service.

Does riding train through state equal having been to state?

My criterion is: Purchase and/or consume something in the state, and it counts.

    EB Stop Gets Refurb Funds

The big VA hospital in/near Tomah makes it a great HSR candidate. Perhaps some differing government departments could work together to make that happen. What?? Stranger things have happened.

    WMATA Red Line Collision

A friend's husband and toddler were on the rear-ending train, about three cars back. They "bounced around" but walked away unscathed. The kiddo, nearly 3, came home and began reenacting the incident while "ignoring momma, who keeps coming over every few seconds and hugging him tightly." She...

2 Diner questions for Chicago and LSL

Historic/Nostalgic food: The Berghoff. German food. Received Chicago's first liquor license after Prohibition. The Billy Goat Tavern. Underneath Michigan Av. Frequented by crusty journos such as Mike Royko back in the day, it's the original "cheeseburger! cheeseburger!" place that inspired the...

    Chicago lay-over

    1. Yep, CTA is bus and "El", but not Metra. 2. X28 is a weekday, rush hour bus (and ironically, hopstop.com is giving me a longer travel time on this "express" bus than on the #10 local).

    CTA Help

IMO I'd rank them: (tie) Burt's Place and Pequod Pizza. Two tiny, cozy pizza places within blocks of each other in the suburb of Morton Grove. Both are very near the Morton Grove Metra stop on the Milw. District North line (to Fox Lake). This guy Burt started Pequod's in the early 70s, sold it...

    CTA Help

Hey Longford, I've tried to preach the virtues of non-Giordano's pizza here before, to no avail. Chicago's fourth-best deepdish reigns supreme amongst the railfans.

    What's your favorite rail music?

And my point is there would not be a stage production at all for you to get all scoldy about...without the earlier filmed version. The stage versions are a couple of beats too slow, IMO. I noticed that in the "We're in the Money" clip that followed in the playlist too (and why stage *that* song...

    What's your favorite rail music?

The version I had in mind was from the 1933 film (used to be up on YT; couldn't find it today). But those stage versions may make me rethink the pick entirely. Yeesh!

    Things to do in CHI

Even so, admission fees are why I take my visitors to the Signature Room, the bar/restaurant atop the John Hancock Center instead of an observation deck. Yes, it's further away from CUS, but you can enjoy a nice cocktail along with great views.

    thanksgiving trip

Well, this was a huge success. Taking the train this year was something I talked my wife into, and I was afraid things would go horribly awry and she'd hate it, but my fears were unfounded. Actually I was the one that had a less-good time, but only because I'd aggravated a back injury the...

    Amtrak Critic passes away

His Wiki page briefly says Weyrich "had a long history of ardent support for rail mass transit..." As for the rest of his positions: well, he and I would have viewed each other as broken clocks, and I'll leave it at that.

    Clowns, Bozos, Or What?

I don't sue bands when they use my samples, so I'd rather not be called a Bozo. As for being called a clown...I have no problem with scaring children and giving them nightmares that last into adulthood, so if the oversized shoe fits...
