New Amtrak Proposed Routes Map has Dropped

Hmmm. I'm not seeing Virginia's Richmond to Charlottesville route that our Governor Northam has been crowing about recently.

Newport News to get a new station?

From the Daily Press (read the article now as it will probably be password protected soon): http://www.dailypress.com/news/traffic/exclusive/dp-nws-evg-amtrak-peninsula-20121129,0,595622.story Emphasis is mine. Some forward thinking from Newport News. Let's hope that the 3rd daily run from...

    Virginia Rail Info/Update

Demand on rise ahead of Amtrak's launch in Norfolk That's an article in Saturday's Pilot about the new Norfolk-Richmond route, and the possibilities for more runs daily. One line in the article caught my eye: That would be nice. It's been way too long since Roanoke, a real rail city, has had...

Obama to Announce High-Speed Rail Plan Post-Speech

Didn't notice the Richmond to Hampton Roads run in there anywhere. Or does that money come from a different pot?

    HSR Interest By Region

Big interest in HSR here in Norfolk, VA. A possible high speed line from Petersburg to Norfolk has quite a few people excited. We miss rail service here!

Picayune opened a new REAL station in October, 2008. The old picnic shelter is gone now. Here's a YouTube video of the new station. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wfdU91jmrs P.S. RailroadRod has some nice videos of Mississippi-area trains and stations on YouTube

    New Virginia Train

The services that Virginia is paying for DO end at L'Enfant. Yeah, it's a technicality.

    Amtrak Route Structure

For now, we are just trying to get Virginia Beach to sign on to light rail. The Tide (in Norfolk) is just a starter line after all. There is a big regional plan for the next 30 years or so. The Transit Vision Plan for Hampton Roads does include light rail and commuter rail to Richmond and North...

    Amtrak Route Structure

PLEASE, do Norfolk to Richmond, and Norfolk to Raleigh/Durham. Today, Norfolk and Virginia Beach feel like the country's biggest cul de sac!

sunset limited shut out in stimulus

That is true. But the 'shed' in Biloxi was heavily damaged with all the electrical and lighting totally screwed up. It's not fit for the nighttime stops of the Sunset Limited. And the Gulfport depot also doesn't have electricity for lights either. Going off topic, there was talk for a very...

sunset limited shut out in stimulus

For what it's worth, the Biloxi and Gulfport stations also need a good bit of work. They were both heavily damaged in Katrina.

    The Tide Light Rail

Here's a video tour of the construction that's going on now for the Tide. It shows the route and, for me, makes it a lot easier to visualize the Tide. http://hamptonroads.tv/hrtv.php?id=2859662 By the way, earlier i said that the Tide would be running every 15 minutes during peak times...

    The Tide Light Rail

If you want some in depth (and sometimes heated) discussion about the Tide, may i suggest heading over to urbanplanet.org's forums, specifically the Norfolk and Virginia Beach subforums? The Tide has been a major topic over there. http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/Norfolk-...ans-t15925.html...

    The Tide Light Rail

As far as i've been able to find out from local press, it's a 20 minute run from one end to the other, with trains running every 15 minutes during peak hours. Most of the run will be isolated from traffic, as it's on an old Norfolk Southern right-of-way. The parts in downtown Norfolk will be...

How Should Amtrak Change the Sunset?

It looks to me like a 24 hour clock.

    railroad maps

A somewhat related question: I'm looking for a map (or maps) of Amtrak routes in Virginia and West Virginia that shows ALL the towns that each route passes through, not just the towns that have stations or scheduled stops. Thanks in advance.

New Buffalo Michigan - New Station

The words should ever being the main words. My guess is, this station will have an area off to one side where the feds COULD quickly put a screening area if one was mandated. Odds are, they will just put in some snack machines and a newspaper rack and those coin-operated TV's in there. :)

    Picayune, MS - New Station

Picayune is hyped about the station. They're asking Amtrak to put in a Quik-Trak kiosk, and are already thinking about adding a welcome center, in addition to a railroad museum. And like i said before, they are petitioning Greyhound to restore service to the city. They see this new station as a...
