    Las Vegas

The original post said that they are using Amfleets. Anyone care to take a guess at if they will use a cab car or a second P42 so they don't have to turn the train? That is going to be a very tight schedule if they are going to use one trainset to cover the service like the 799/798 surfliners...

    Your favorite amtrak trip?

So far I think I'd pick the California Zephyr. The scenery is hard to beat. -Firebert

    Sightserer Lounge vs Lounge

I'm almost certain I've said this on here before, but I think there were drawings, if not a prototype shell for a Viewliner lounge that had an all glass ceiling. I look forward to seeing Amtrak's next 5 year plan to see what they plan on doing about the heritage replacements. -Firebert

    Who's next?

Now that there's enough rebuilt Superliners to equip one train with upgraded equipment, what LD train do you think should get the Builder Treatment next? At first I thought that it should be the Starlight to maintain the train's status as Amtrak's premiere train. Also the Starlight's equipment...

    Starlight Trip Results

Hello everyone! I'm finally getting around to posting the results of my trip on the Starlight from a week ago. As with previous experiences on Amtrak, my rule of train crews held true. (The crew on the first trip is always better than the crew on the return trip.) On the way up to Portland, we...

    1st Trip on Pacific Surfliner

If you're making a return trip going north and have a ticket from San Clemente and board in San Juan, I don't see the conductor having an issue with that. I would double check that one with Amtrak though. -Firebert

    1st Trip on Pacific Surfliner

Northteacher- There is no real "station" at the San Clemente Pier, however, there is a platform that a few of the Surfliners do stop at. The schedule is designed to accomodate people coming down from northern areas on the route to spend a day and then return. On board, the coach seating is...

    Bought Tickets

Southern- I wish I could have a trip report up for you to see before your trip, but I leave on the starlight two days before you arrive. The hotel I'm looking at has wireless internet, so I'm hoping that I can post mid-trip reports and images. -Firebert

    Bought Tickets

Okay guys, I just bought my tickets for a trip to Portland, OR next month. I'm already pretty excited about it. This will be my second trip on the Starlight out of Los Angeles. I look forward to telling you all about it when I get back. -Firebert

    Acela Service Cancelled till Summer

Question: Are they unable to pull good brake discs off of some sets to get other sets running? -Firebert

    NEC Mail Trains

Thanks for the responses guys. The motive behind my question was to find out for a friend doing a model railroad project. We were wondering if the trains ever ran with equipment painted in the Acela schemes. -Firebert

    NEC Mail Trains

Does anyone know if Amtrak still runs the mail trains on the NEC or did those go away with the end of the Mail & Express business? -Firebert

    Remanufacturing Continues...

It looks like the folks at Beech Grove have been busy. I saw sleeping car #32052 on the Southwest Chief on Friday night and it had the new blue and white interior. According to On Track On Line the 32055 has also been released recently, bringing the total of remanufactured cars to 4. In the...

    Corridor clippers

That car made an appearance on the Pacific Surfliners last May during the Fullerton RR Days. I was quite shocked to see anything with a pantograph so far away from any electrified main line. It would be great to have a model of that car for any train because it does get around the network...

    Does Amtrak advertise?

Amtrak California runs some pretty heavy advertising on radio stations in the Los Angeles area. I hear them on KFI (640 AM) and on KYSR (98.7 FM) frequently. Lately the ads have been really pushing Pacific Business Class for as little as $9 more. Also I've seen some billboards along highways...

    -4trains

The Three Rivers was created to provide connections for M&E in Chicago from the SW Chief. The elimination of M&E means that the Three Rivers is now an obsolete train and is no longer needed. (The train was never really for passengers to begin with.) Hopefully that makes it a little more clear...

    Express Trac on track?

And if I recall correctly, the Express Trak contract still has some life left. It won't end for several more years. -Firebert
