Baggage storage at New York penn?

Another baggage question.... I've read some other sites that say amtrak has a baggage counter where you can check baggage for the day (eg not check them on the train). Any newer info on the cost and where exactly it's located?

    Checking Bags at Chicago

How far before the train leaves can you check bags? It seems the Amtrak website has no info on this.

Lake Shore Limited next week any problems lately?

There are many ideas suggested in this thread a few years back. http://discuss.amtraktrains.com/index.php?/topic/31542-chicago-union-station-layover/ There is also the Clinton Blue Line 'L' station 2 blocks south and the Quincy Brown/Orange/Pink Lines station 3 blocks to the east. Lots of...

    Capitol Limited meals

We had lunch on the CL coming into DC last year but I recall it was very abridged. They were out of most options, but did have the item we wanted.

    Concrete ties?

There are concerete ties all over the Northeast Corridor, and probably in the Michigan Corridor and new Chicago-St Louis corridor. I'm not sure why, but I've heard that BNSF likes to use concerete ties on curves but wood ties on straight track. Also, like the BART example, the tracks going into...

Red Caps; how does Amtrak decide where to have them?

I believe the reason for no checked baggage at Galesburg is that there is simply not enough space. Of couse, the city tore down the huge CB&Q station in the 80s, that would have worked!

    CZ Delay

From the TrainOrders thread: "Broken rail problems across the desert... extremely cold conditions cause pull-aparts that require MOW crews to heat up the rail w/ a kerosene-soaked rope, light it on fire, then joint-bar it back together after it expands." EDIT: Posted it twice

    Stations with curved platforms

I doubt this is used for Amtrak, but I know stations on the Washington Metro with curved platforms had mirrors that allow the motorman/engineer to see the entire platform to ensure safety.

    Most untapped market

Looking at my Official Guide of the Railways from 1941, the Cap took about 6 hours, 30 minutes to get from DC to Pittsburgh. If it was only like that now!

Ding ding ding... Lima is correct! Your turn.

    Name That Station!

No. Hint: The station is not currently used—and it was on the main line of the biggest rivel of the former New York Central Railroad.

    Name That Station!
